Class Node in Variant Configuration: -

(BOM Component Assignment based on the Selection of Class Item (K) Chars values)

Class node means the class (200), which is assigned to the variant class (300)

Classes can be used in BOM

As we all know, Super BOMs are used in Variant Configuration, which contain all the components
that are required to manufacture the material.

There is one more option available in SAP to use Classes as BOM Items (Components), not very
commonly used.

You can use class items to control the selection of variant parts in a BOM, Here it works same as
selection condition do in case of Super BOM.

Variant parts are classified in a class, and this class which is entered in the BOM as a class item.
When you configure Material, the class is replaced by a suitable variant part.

Class items can help you to simplify maintenance of BOMs for configurable materials.

 You only enter one item for the class, instead of several items for the individual variant
parts.
 You do not need to create and assign selection conditions.
 You can classify additional objects in the class at any time, without having to change the
BOM.

Create a Characteristics:
CT04

1. Leather_Seat
2. Head_Lamp
Assign both the chars to class
Class Type 200 (Material Configurable Objects) class

CL02 :
ACCESSORIES
In the additional data tab select the below:

Now, Lets Create materials and assign the class with different characteristics combination.

MM01
Create materials as follows and assign class of class type 200 with Characteristics combination

Materia Characteristics selection

l Combination
30 Black Seat, LED
31 Black Seat, Non LED
32 Gray Seat, LED
33 Gray Seat, Non LED
34 Off White Seat, LED
35 Off White Seat, Non LED
You can see the assigned of class chars for ALL material using CL30N

Assign two characteristics to the Variant Class (300) of SUPER_BIKE

Add the class item in BOM
CS02
Now the assignment of Class Item(K) 200 is done to the BOM.

Scenario Execution testing:-

Go to CU50 transaction
Input the Chars Values:
Heres, We had Input

HEAD_LAMP : ‘LED’
Leather Seat : ‘ Off White’

So, the material assignment combination of chars  this should trigger material number ‘34’ as
BOM Component at 0140 operation.

Materia Characteristics selection

l Combination
30 Black Seat, LED
31 Black Seat, Non LED
32 Gray Seat, LED
33 Gray Seat, Non LED
34 Off White Seat, LED
35 Off White Seat, Non LED

Lets simulate this and see the result.

We see material 34 has been triggered.

So, the component has been assigned based on the selection parameters. We are fine here.

Lets try with another scenario

Materia Characteristics selection
l Combination
30 Black Seat, LED
31 Black Seat, Non LED
32 Gray Seat, LED
33 Gray Seat, Non LED
34 Off White Seat, LED
35 Off White Seat, Non LED

Gray Seat, Let combination should result in material 32.

See material ‘32’ has been trigged in the Variant BOM as component.

Lets Do this via a sales order and see:

Display BOM of SUPER_BIKE for illustration –

Item ‘K@ assigned at opeariton in 0140

Lets create a sales order:

Input the values 

Sales order we had selected ‘NON LED’ & ‘Off White’  Chars options while createtion.
Per the material assignement of these chars values – this should trigger material number

Materia Characteristics selection

l Combination
30 Black Seat, LED
31 Black Seat, Non LED
32 Gray Seat, LED
33 Gray Seat, Non LED
34 Off White Seat, LED
35 Off White Seat, Non LED

Material number ‘35’ should be triggered at BOM operation 0140.

Lets save the Sales order.

Sales order has been saved.

Lets check the stock/requirements Lits (MD04)

We see customer/sales order visible.

Run the MRP LIVE – MD01N
Lets check the MD04
We have the planned order

Convert to production order.

Save

Production order crerated.

Lets go the production order and check the BOM Components –

See Material ‘35’ has been triggered based on the Class ‘k’  Selection of Non Led and Off white
seat chars selection.
