Spectral Analysis
Filtering is designed to reduce the noise in the signal relative to the information, and hence better
clarify what is going on. The operations for real-time processing involve taking a signal x(t), and using
an ADC to produce a digital signal that is inputted to a digital signal processor (DSP) to produce a
new digital output. That output is then converted back to and analog signal, y(t), using a DAC. This
figure depicts a noisy signal:

If the DSP is doing a proper job, then the output of the DAC might look like this:
