F*CK FACEBOOK!

LET’S MAKE A WEBSITE!

Sent: October 14, 2019

PROPONENTS

Mac Andre Arboleda (aka Asshulz) is a researcher/writer based in Los Baños, Laguna.
He is a member of independent publishing collective Magpies and organizer of the biannual Zine
Orgy. He blogs at ASSHULZ.NET.

Philip Xavier Li is a BS Computer Science student from the University of the Philippines
Los Baños and a Culture Staff for UPLB Perspective.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Over the past few years, we’ve seen Facebook evolve into a disinformation-for-profit
machine. Social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram have taken our
individuality not just by selling our personal data, but also by limiting the ways we can express
ourselves. F*ck Facebook! Let’s Make a Website! is a short discussion on privacy, identity, and
autonomy in the context of the Internet & a reintroduction of the personal website as a mode of
info-sharing, self-expression, and resistance.

The discussion will be an hour long: 30 minutes to discuss the topic (Philip Xavier Li),
and 30 minutes to discuss how to make your personal website with Neocities (Mac Andre
Arboleda).

The presentation would require a venue, a projector (optional) and laptops from
attendees. Ideally, this presentation would be held in the afternoon on the date of the art market
of WiSiK on October 26, 2019, asynchronous to other talks to assure the number of attendees.
We also request that this event be open to all, so we could share our work to as many people as
possible.

The proponents offer to create our own publicity materials and coordinate with the
WiSiK organizers to ensure attendance from members of the UPLB community.
