NEWBORN RESUSITATION

Neonatal resuscitation is defined as the set of interventions at the time of birth to support the
establishment of breathing and circulation

STEPS OF NEWBORN RESUSITATION

 STIMULATE THE NEONATE BY DRYING


 CLEAR THE AIRWAY
 STIMULATE THE NEONATE
 CLAMP AND CUT THE CORD
 PERFORM BAG MASK VENTILATION USING AMBU
 OXYGENATION
 CONTINUE RESUSITATION IF APGAR LESS THAN 4

ESSENTIAL NEWBORN CARE


ESSENTIAL NEWBORN CARE refer to key routine practices in the care of the newborn, particularly at
the time of birth and over the first hours of life, whether in the health facility or at home.

 early initiation and exclusive breastfeeding.


 thermal care (including prompt drying and covering at birth, maximizing skin-to-skin contact,
delayed bathing, maintaining “warm chain”)
 hygiene practices (including cord-care and caregiver handwashing)

BIRTH CANNAL INJURIES


Any injuries to the genital tract through which delivery of the fetus occurs uterus cervix vagina vulva (&
perineum) during the intra-natal period is called the birth cannal injury

Classification of injury A.depending on anatomical structure involved (• injuries to bony parts •


symphysis pubis • sacro-coccygeal joint • sacro-illiac joint • injuries to soft tissue • vulva • perineal tears
• laceration to vagina / cervix • rupture of uterus)

B. Depending on type of injury • example - laceration, hematoma, rupture

The birth of a baby can trigger some of powerful emotions, from excitement and joy to fear and anxiety
which is called post partum blues. But it can also result in depression. Signs and symptoms of baby blues
— which last only a few days to a week or two after the baby is born — may include: Mood swings
Anxiety Sadness Irritability Feeling overwhelmed Crying Reduced concentration Appetite problems
Trouble sleeping
