Tool Description
The Weatherford flush-joint elevator uses four slips—two hydraulically
actuated slips and two passive slips—to clamp onto and run joints of flush-
joint or coupled pipe. As each joint arrives at the drill floor, the flush joint
elevator is latched around the joint, and the hydraulic slips are activated
from the control panel, positively latching it onto the joint. The elevator
then lifts the joint to the derrick and is stabbed and made up to the string.
After the connection is confirmed as acceptable, the slips are released
remotely, and the flush-joint elevator rides down the pipe, which eliminates
the need for manual intervention. The main elevator is then latched and
the string is lowered into the well.
