HAIKU OF MATSUO BASHO

1. The door of thatched hut


Also changed the owner.
At the Doll’s Festival.

2. Spring is passing.
The birds cry, and the fishes fill
With tears on their eyes.

3. Grasses in summer.
The warriors’ dreams
All that left.

4. The early summer rain


Leaves behind
Hikari-do.

5. Ah, tranquility!
Penetrating the very rock,
A cicada’s voice.

6. The early summer rain,


Gathering it and fast
Mogami River.

7. To the old pond
A frog leaps in.
And the sound of the water.

8. Saying something,
The lip feel cold.
The Autumn wind.

9. Tieing the Chimaki,


Other hand hold,
Her bangs.

10. Sick on journey,


My dream run about
The desolate field.

1. On a branch 
floating downriver 
a cricket, singing.

2. Mosquito at my ear— 
does he think 
I’m deaf?

3. All the time I pray to Buddha 


I keep on 
killing mosquitoes.

4. Even with insects— 


some can sing, 
some can’t.

5. Goes out, 
comes back— 
the love life of a cat.

6. Under the evening moon 


the snail

with children.

I keep house
casually.

a pretty girl
yawning.
