Case Study Analysis`

1) Briefly Summarize the problem as understood in the


case?

The case portrays an organization which was working


smoothly but later gets disturbed due to some internal
issues such as changes in the behavior of people and
perception inside the organization. There are three
major characters:

i) Jimmy Dubash -
ii) Raghav Kashyap - South Head of Delawar.
iii) Varun Singh – Newly appointed Sales Head
The case begins with the story of Jimmy, a perfect gem
and resource for his organization. He is portrayed as a
passionate team leader who is very dedicated and
works for his company’s growth and his personal
growth. When a vacancy for sales head arise in the
organization Varun Singh from Mumbai is appointed.
From this moment thins began to turn in the
organization and problems began to arise.
There is a strong difference of opinion and attitude
between Jimmy and Varun. They soon began to have
clashes between each other in private first and later in
public. This began to create an organizational jealousy
and organizational envy in the office, which disturbs the
entire functioning and operation . The various battles
between both of them created changes in the structure
and operations of the organization which led to a
negative impact and results. An another major problem
in the case is the lack of proper organizational control
by Mr. Kashyap and lack of proper communication. The
organization Lacked a proper Manual of Policies and
Standard Operating Procedure which clearly states how
operations are to be conducted and how clients are to
be dealt with.
2) Analyse the perception of Jimmy , Varun as well as
Kashyap

Perception is defined as the process by which


information is received and making sense of the world
around us. One of the main theory in the case is
attribution theory i.e.: perception theory.
Now we can analyse the perception of each character
i) Jimmy’s Perception

Jimmy commanded a lot of respect among the


employees of his organization. He was dedicated
towards his work and organization and had a lot of
respect in the organization.

 Autocratic Approach : Jimmy has an autocratic


approach in working in the organization in which
authority is given the utmost power and strict
compliance to various rules is important. Jimmy
is a person who adheres all the rules of the
organization and strictly follow the norms and
guidelines.
 Means to an end style : Jimmy’s work culture is a
fine example of end style by which he tries to
improve the effectiveness of the organization

 Change in Perception (After Varun’s Arrival) :


After the arrival of Varun there is a change in
perception of Jimmy. He has a selective
perception by which he interpreted what he saw
on the basis of his interest background and
experience. The popularity of Varun among co
workers due to his cool and carefree attitude
created an organizational jealousy in the mind of
Jimmy

ii) Varun’s Perception

 Charismatic : Varun is cool and charismatic in


nature. His cool and carefree attitude had
created a wave of followers for him inside the
organization.

 Leader of a Kind : Varun got many followers and


admirers within short time due to his style of
management, he became a favorite in the
organization. He is also supportive.
 Flexible : Varun is very flexible in nature and
tends to easily adopt with changing situations
and achieve desired results.

 Effective Approach : Varun’s approach to various


situations are more effective and efficient to the
organization.

iii) Kashyap’s Perception

 Distinctive style of management : Kashyap has a


distinctive style of management. He shows
different behavior in different situations.

 Collegial model approach : Kashyap valued both


Jimmy’s and Varun’s inputs.

 Kashyap believes that employees should work


themselves on solving problems rather than
solving problems for them or giving them a
direct solution.
3) Suggest suitable solutions to settle the deadlock
between Varun and Jimmy
Some Effective solutions that can be used to solve the
deadlock and improve the organizations performance
are:

 Setting and following SOP


 Making a clear MOP for the organization
 Kashyap taking direct action in solving the
problem
 Reinforcing positive behavior in the organisation
 Providing a space for grievance redressal within
the organization
 Improve communication in the organization
 Bring a sense of unity within the employees
 Motivating the employees
 Bringing a Mental Revolution in the organisation
