Me and My Social Map

Starting with your present situation as a student, list down five important factors that you think
are responsible for the kind of person you are right now. Start with what is unique in you as social
person (not necessarily focusing on your biophysical traits). Link each feature with a societal, cultural,
or political force. Then evaluate each in terms of opportunities and constraints it provides in pursuing
your present and future plans. Use the table below as a template for your assessment.

(May include but are not limited (Is it societal/cultural/political?) (Does it provide opportunities or
to sex/religion/residence) serve as constraints?)
Minor (Teen) Societal Constraints (There are many
things a minor isn’t allowed to
do, i.e. voting.)
Egalitarian (A person who Political Opportunities (Favoring equality
believes in the equality of all can help us avoid harmful
people) generalizations or stereotype
regarding race, gender, etc.
This is essential for building a
stronger community, state, and
nation.)
Female Societal Constraints (There are jobs that
are stereotypically just for men,
i.e. construction work.)
Strong-willed Cultural Opportunities (Having a strong
will helps us when it comes to
life skills and learning for our
future, including not being
easily daunted or discouraged,
being loyal and not often
accepting defeat.)
Literate Societal Opportunities (Literacy is critical
to economic development as
well as individual and
community well-being.)
