The Akao Prize is now awarded to individuals around the world who have demonstrated Excellence in their
practice and dissemination of Quality Function Deployment (QFD) for many years. Taken into consideration
are research, authorship, teaching, practical applications, and personal commitment and service to the QFD
community world wide.

IEEE Computer Society Award :: Award for Software Process Achievement

The RIT/USA TODAY Quality Cup Competition recognizes teams who make significant contributions to the
improvement of quality in their organization. The competition is conducted as a cooperative academic-
industry effort between the College of Business, Rochester Institute of Technology and USA TODAY. The
Cup stresses team participation and is achievable by any organization. Currently, the website is for
research/educational purposes only as the final competition for the RIT/USA TODAY Quality Cup was last
held during 2001. Stories of all winners and finalists can be found on this web site. (does not appear to be

Shingo Prize

Referred to by Business Week as the Nobel prize in manufacturing, the 'Shingo Prize for Excellence in
Manufacturing' promotes world-class manufacturing and recognizes companies that achieve superior
customer satisfaction and other positive business results. Utah State University, in 1988, recognized Dr.
Shigeo Shingo for his lifetime work with an Honorary Doctorate in Business and established the Shingo Prize
for Excellence in Manufacturing. Dr. Shingo distinguished himself as one of the world's leading experts in
improving manufacturing processes. He has been described as an "engineering genius," and he assisted in
the creation of many of the features of revolutionary just-in-time manufacturing methods, systems, and
processes that make up the renowned Toyota Production System and related production systems.
