Note
The project manager must comply with SOP C-PP-19-04 when
working on projects.
1.2.2 Scope
Note
Compliance with the national or local installation, operation, use, and
maintenance regulations must be ensured.
Note
Operator restrictions
Operational Qualification may only be carried out by the responsible
skilled personnel or by the relevant specialist in compliance with the
applicable regulations.
Note
Electrical installation
Installation must be performed by a specialist electrical company in
accordance with DIN VDE 0100, IEC 60364, and applicable local
regulations.
Note
Installation Requirements
The generally applicable Installation Requirements are set out in the
Installation Guideline and can be found in documents IRE 1, IRE 2,
and IRE 3.
Warning
Responsible organization
The responsible organization is in charge of ensuring the following in
accordance with ISO 26722:
– The selection and composition of a water treatment system for
haemodialysis.
– A periodic check of the permeate.
Warning
EU / CE standards
– The devices have been developed and designed in accordance with
the general European CE standards, both with regard to the
Installation Requirements and the installation instructions.
– If there are any national regulations that go beyond – or differ
from – these standards, it is the responsibility of the relevant national
organization to ensure that these differences are implemented
accordingly.
Note
Provision of a suitable disconnector
The manufacturer recommends providing a suitable disconnector at
the transition point between the drinking water supply and the water
pretreatment system.
Warning
Responsible organization
The responsible organization is in charge of:
– Implementing the requirements stipulated by DIN EN 1717 as
regards setting up a suitable transition point between the drinking
water supply and the components of the water pretreatment system
The prerequisites for installation and operating notes listed below apply
in addition to the information previously provided in the Instructions for
Use, Service Manual, and Installation Guideline.
General requirements
Warning
Duties of the responsible organization
The responsible organization is responsible for selecting and using the
medical devices in the intensive-care sphere.
Warning
Standards and regulations for connection to the power supply
system
The respective national regulations for the design of premises used for
medical purposes (e.g., DIN VDE 0100-710) must be observed.
Note
Water treatment should have built-in redundancy: e.g., the single-station
reverse osmosis system should be supplied with dialysis water or a
second single-station reverse osmosis system should be provided as a
reserve.
Permitted water
technology devices for Single-station reverse Suitable options:

Warning
Risk of injury from electrical voltage
All devices with accessible metal parts must be incorporated in the
potential equalization zone.
Warning
Risk of injury as a result of an electric shock
If treatments are performed with the aid of central venous catheters
positioned in the atrium, the following points must be observed:
– Connect the device to the potential equalization zone of the
installation.
– The use classification is Type B.
– The device must be removed from the patient environment
(1.5 meters away in all directions), as the contact current or patient
leakage current is greater than the corresponding limit values for
Type CF applied parts.
The limit values for patient leakage currents for Type CF applied parts
are:
– 10 µA AC / DC (normal case, no fault)
– 50 µA AC / DC (in case of first fault)
If you have any questions, contact the local service support.
Warning
The user must not touch the patient and the connector contacts / socket
contacts of the device at the same time – there is a risk of a resulting
patient leakage current.
Note
Compliance with EN 1717
When a water pretreatment (e.g., softener) is used, a pipe disconnector
or other protective device for category 2 liquids is essential.
Warning
Material strength
All the tube lines connected and the drain pipe must be resistant to /
must not be corroded by concentrated salt solutions, hot water up to
90 °C, or dialysis waste water (e.g., do not use cast-iron drain pipes).
Warning
Contamination hazard
All the hydraulic connections must be cleaned / disinfected on a
regular basis.
To prevent aerosols forming in the drainage area, it is advisable to
use only sealed drains (MSP, MSR, MediaP, MediaR, or MediaC
design).
Open drains should not be used.
Always avoid splash water.
Flush the drain regularly (to prevent it from drying out).
Check the drain funnel regularly and clean it depending on the
degree of contamination of the run-off liquid.
Note
Using a softener with an open brine tank in the intensive-care sphere
is not generally recommended.
Flush the entire water treatment unit regularly when it is not being
used for treatment.
Warning
Additional equipment that is connected to medical electrical equipment
must be shown to comply with the applicable IEC or ISO standards
(e.g., IEC 60950 for data processing equipment). Furthermore, all
configurations must comply with the requirements for medical electrical
systems as stipulated by the relevant standards (see IEC 60601-1-1 or
paragraph 16 of IEC 60601-1:2005 respectively).
The person who configures the system is the person who connects
additional equipment to medical electrical equipment. He is therefore
responsible for ensuring that the system complies with the requirements
for the system. Note that local laws take priority over the above-mentioned
requirements. If you have any questions, please contact your local
specialist retailer or technical support.
Warning
Operator hazard
Changes or modifications to the device outside the scope of its intended
purpose are not permitted.
Warning
The use of multiple sockets or extension cables is prohibited.
Note
List of standards
The standards and guidelines listed on the following pages are stated
as examples and may or may not be applicable depending on local
requirements.

Note
Materials for drain connections
To enable operation of the systems, there must be a drain connection
at the installation location.
The materials used for this on-site drain connection must be resistant
to concentrated salt solutions and dialysis waste water / must not be
corrodible (e.g., cast-iron drain pipes must not be used).
Note
To be observed during installation planning
As well as taking the technical data in the "Specifications" chapter
into account, you must also observe the Installation Requirements
during installation planning. For details, please refer to document
IRE 1.

ISO standards
The Feed water tank ist the ideal system to meet the requirements of the ISO dialysis water quality standards.
ISO 11663:2009 – Quality of dialysis fluid for haemodialysis and related therapies
ISO 13959:2009 – Water for haemodialysis and related therapies
ISO 26722:2009 – Water treatment equipment for haemodialysis applications and
related therapies
Functional description – A feed water tank is used if the volume of feed water available
from the domestic water supply is insufficient. Generally a booster
pump assembly must be installed downstream of the feed water
tank. The feed water tank is installed downstream of the backwa-
shing filter to prevent deposits in the tank.

For reverse osmosis systems with a permeate output starting from
1500–4000 L (soft water supply max. 6000 L/h), use the tube

Note
The following must be observed when replacing old sand filters,
Birm filters, and activated carbon filters:
Reducers C or D are required if a sand filter, softener, or activated
carbon filter from a previous range are being replaced with an
equivalent from the current range.
Products from the previous range were generally supplied with
1" connections.

Chemical free online water hardness monitoring
- Potentiometric measurement method with a calcium and magnesium-selective sensor.
Integrated functionality – Detailed reporting for hardness limits, raw water hardness and
measuring intervals.
– The monitoring unit continuously monitors the post-softener water
hardness
– The quality of the measuring probe is monitored by its measuring
method and in case of a degradation of the quality, the required
manual replacement of the measuring probe is signaled automa-
tically
– The measuring system not only ensures completely autonomous
monitoring of the quality of the soft water, but also monitors the
reliability of the measuring procedure and of the automatically
controlled measuring function.
– Manual and automatic assessment of the sensor quality
– Evaluating the calibration of the sensor quality
– Large LCD display for simplified programming
