Voting System in the US

The voting system in the United States can be tricky. In this country the person
who gets the most votes may not win. Why is that? The decision will fall to 538
individual electors to the US Electoral College.

Each state sends (based on population) a minimum of 1 of the US House of

Representatives. The least populous state e.g. Alaska send three members to
Congress - two senators and one representative. On the other hand the most
populous state e.g. California sends two senators and 53 representatives, for a
total of 55. This means if in a state the majority of the votes go to a candidate,
the number of Electoral College members of that state goes to that candidate,
not the number of votes from the public. So if someone “wins” California they
get 55 votes, still if Alaska votes for them, they only get 6 votes.
