Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):

Levels of Technology Integration:

☒ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

☐ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This lesson will be accessible by all students. The use of storytelling
through an e-book is a refreshing and engaging way to use technology for a lesson. This allows students to
interact with the lesson in a new way through the use of productivity tools. Microsoft PowerPoint provides
dynamic features that allow for an e-book to presented as a movie. The lesson is also flexible for various
learners because it can be paused at different parts and explained further, or in another way.

Lesson idea implementation: The purpose of this lesson is to instruct students on the ten holidays
throughout the year that are listed as Federal Holidays by the government. The goal is for students to
remember what holidays are federally recognized, when they occur, and why they are important to
remember and recognize. The e-book begins with January & New Year’s Day and goes throughout the year
until December & Christmas. This meets the Georgia Standards of Excellence standard SSKHI that requires
Kindergarteners to be taught the national holidays and why we celebrate them.

From start to finish this introductory or reinforming lesson should take less than 15 minutes, including at least
5 minutes of introducing the topic. Students will be asked if they know the 12 months of the year and then
asked what some of their favorite holidays are. Next, the teacher will introduce the e-book and play it for the
class. At the end the teacher will comment on how many of the student’s favorite holidays were national
holidays and how some of them are not but that they are still important and special days of the year.

Mostly, students will be asked to listen, take in, and remember the important information presented to them
through the e-book. Feedback will be offered to the students through a question and answer session at the
end of the lesson. The lesson will conclude with the teacher going through the months and asking the
students if they remember what national holidays occur in which months of the year. This lesson extends to
higher learning because the students are presented a familiar topic in a new and engaging way through media
& technology.

Reflective Practice: This lesson was developed as an introductory or reinforcement lesson on knowing the
Federal Holidays. It should be preceded by a lesson on knowing the twelve months of the year and followed
up by a lesson where the students would put their newfound knowledge to use by creating a calendar of their
own. This secondary lesson would ask the students to draw a picture of a national holiday that falls in all the
applicable months. In a final lesson, students could be called upon to record themselves reading their own e-
book describing something they know about Federal Holidays.
