The production process
1. Pulping and Retting

 Soft tissue paper comes in varying thicknesses and textures but is

mainly manufactured for facial tissue, bath tissue, paper towels,
napkins and sometimes packing tissue. The first step in the process
of making soft tissue paper is creating paper pulp, which can be
generated from recycled materials or new ones. Tissue-paper
manufacturers create their pulp by stirring together retted (soaked
and pulled apart) tree fibers in a large vat. The type of tree fiber
and how much water is mixed in depends on the particular product
being made.

2. Pressing

 Once the pulp is ready, it is

pressed through two
pressure rolls so that a
majority of the moisture is
squeezed out. Sometimes

1
the pulp might be pressed only between two rolls for thicker paper,
and other times it may undergo the pressure of multiple rolls for
thinner paper. This leaves the pulp in a manageable consistency for
the next step, which will completely dry it out and scrape it down
to a thin sheet.

3. Creping

 The pulp is processed with a Yankee dryer, a drying cylinder

heated by steam. This dryer puts the pulp through a process called
creping; hence the term "crepe paper." The hood above the roller
dries the pulp with a forceful heat as the roller turns and a fine
blade scrapes the tissue down to the soft, desired thickness. The
tissue does not get completely scraped away, because the roller is
first sprayed with adhesives.

4. Reeling and Cutting (this is the part of the processes which takes
place in fine factory)

 The long length of paper is reeled and cut with a machine, such as
the Advantage Soft Reel, into appropriate lengths and sections after
it is dried and thinned. Throughout the process of making soft
tissue paper, there are times when the fibers are exposed to extreme
heat. To keep the fibers from igniting, technology such as Metso's
Advantage WetDust is used to keep eliminate air born dust from
the area and keep the tissue machines clean.

5. Packing

When the tissues are cut, they are now ready for packing, packaging
process varies from nylon bags or cartoon bags. This depends on the
factory.

Tissue paper production in Jordan

There are many factories in Jordan that produces tissue papers, Nuqul
Groups, Alssad Company, alssanabel institution, Altarifi Company and
more.

In my report I chose Fine Company from Nuqul group as I found it the

best in the market.

3
About the company
Noqul group.

Elia Nuqul, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, founded Nuqul

Brothers Company on January 1, 1952, as a trade and import company for
foodstuff. This modest operation has grown over the years to embrace a
number of ventures in the Middle East region, primarily in Jordan, and
has been distinguished for its emphasis on ethical business practices and
an enthusiastic appreciation for opportunity. Six years later, in 1958, Fine
Hygienic Paper Company was established. It has gone on to become the
regional flagship brand for hygienic paper products.

Over the decades, the Group worked to expand regionally and to explore
new investment and business opportunities. The 2005 inauguration of Al
Sindian Paper Mill in Egypt, the largest of its kind in the region,
cemented Fine’s regional hold, and in 2006 Nuqul Automotive’s
dealership was formed presenting Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, and Skoda
brands in Jordan as well as Lamborghini and MAN trucks through the
Integrated Automotive Company in 2008. Further infrastructure projects
took place over the next few years.

Since establishment, the Board has made decisions, sometimes influenced

by political and economic situations, to center their strategy on integrated
industries, expansion and diversification. However, the Group has never
lost sight of the world class ethical standards which distinguished it from
the start. Through these choices, Nuqul Group has become a worldwide
corporation with a global presence in a variety of markets, known for its
business acumen, smart investments and high priority for enhancing
human resources, both within the Group and the larger community.

4
Today, Nuqul Group runs different investments and industries led by an
empowered 5100 team members spanning several continents. It embodies
two major holding entities; FINE Hygienic Holding (FHH) being the
umbrella for paper mills, FINE hygienic paper companies and supporting
industries; while The Promise Holding includes diverse investments in
different sectors and modes.

Fine Tissue production process at

Tissue paper production process in Jordan and especially at Fine factory
begins with ready tissue rolls comes with different thickness and texture
as seen in the figure below.

5
The cutting processes.
The process starts from the machine below as seen in the figure, where
the rolls are set on the machines, then the cutting size is defines before
the cutting.

The Function and Features of this machine.

1. This Automatic Box-Drawing Facial Tissue Machine is designed to
produce facial tissue with high speed, nice folding and easy operation.
2. Counting automatically and output in order.
3. Adopting screw turning knife to cut and vacuum absorption to fold.
4. Adopting stepless adjusting speed to roll and fix different tension of
raw paper.
5. Electrical pneumatic control, easy operation.
6. Wide range of production width for selection.

Input specifications: (Specifications of Raw Material)

1. Maximum Width of raw paper:
420mm/630mm/840mm/1050mm/1260mm
2. Diameter of raw paper: 700mm-1000mm
3. Thickness of raw paper: 14g/ m²-18g/ m²
4. Diameter of paper core: 76mm

Output specifications:

 Production speed: 60-100 m/m

 Production unfolded size (L x W mm): 210 x140-210(adjustable)
(Length can also be 180,190,200, needs to order )
 Production folded size (L x W mm): 105 x 140-210 W (adjustable)

Tissue rolls are set on this machine, the machine is set to the required
thickness and sizes. The added value of this step is to convert the tissue

7
rolls into facial tissue sizes. The time required to accomplish this process
is about 10 seconds per 250 ply.

Packing machine:
After the cutting process the ready tissues go in to the packing line
where the packing bags are ready in the machines, the bags wrap each
250 ply of tissue in one bag as mentioned in the figure below.

The added value of this process in to convert the plies of tissue papers
into packed plies.

Machine specification:

Machine are designed for installation of facial tissue, table napkin, square
napkin bagging, seal and cut 3 in 1 operation

8
Advance PLC and screen monitor for easy and accurate control and
adjustment, and relatively medium high speed production.

A most cost performance semi-automatic machine for medium quantity

product workshop, save manpower and production cost and time.

Adjustable water cooled dual temperature control enable different bag

material choice and excellent sealing effect.

the machine is easy to set to the required tissue paper specifications

Value adding
Fine tissue paper is the tissue number one brand in Jordan, Noqul group
achieves this by the values they added to the product, when contacting
Mr. Essam Alqaza', Fine section general manager, he informed us about
their journey of success, and the reason behind this high market share and
reputation, the following points were pinpointed from our discussion.

9
Building a brand – a reputation for quality and value that customers are
prepared to pay for.  Fine tissue papers sell for much more than other
Jordanian brand even though the production costs per pair are probably
pretty similar!

Delivering excellent service – high quality, attentive personal service

can make the difference between achieving a high price or a medium one.

Product features and benefits – for example, adding fruit or odor

flavors to the tissues attracts the customers.

Offering convenience – customers

will often pay a little more for a
product that they can have
straightaway, or which saves them
time. Fine tissue comes in different
sizes and differed functions.

Using high technology – an automated production line increase

productivity, performance and
communication between workers.
