Owl Tissue Tote

WhOOs got a tissue?

My Owl Tissue Tote will hold a travel size pack of tissue keeping them clean and tidy.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Press and starch all fabrics
*2 pieces of fabric 5” x 5” for front
*1 piece of fabric 5” x 8” for back
*2 pieces of lining fabric 5” x 5”
*1 piece of lining fabric 5” x 8”
*2 pieces of thin cotton batting (warm & natural) 5” x 4”
*1 piece of thin cotton batting (warm & natural) 5” x 8”
*1 6” zipper. No metal teeth. Zipper can be longer, but not shorter.

NOTE: Do NOT sew the last step of the design. This is a small X. This step keeps the machine
from returning to the center when finished. If you let the needle return to the center, it will hit
the zipper pull. Stop embroidering after step 10.
The design is finished.

Hoop water soluble stabilizer (wss)

I use and recommend a woven, fabric like wss.

Sew step 1 onto stabilizer.

This step sews a placement guide for the zipper.
Turn the hoop to the back side.
Place one of the 5”x5” lining pieces, right side down, so that one edge is even with the top
placement line (shown in black) as shown below. Use spray to hold in place.

Turn the hoop to the front side.

Place the zipper in the guideline. Have the pull on the left side.
Secure the bottom edge of the zipper with tape.

Place one of the 5”x5” front pieces, right side down, so that one edge is even with the top edge
of the zipper as shown below.
Secure with spray or tape
Sew step 2. This step sews the fabrics to the zipper.

Place one of the 5”x4” pieces of batting along the seam just sewn (shown in black) as shown
below on the left. Place one of the 5” edges along the seam line.
Fold the front fabric piece over top of the batting.

3. Head outline
4. Eyes
5. White dots in eyes
6. Beak

On the back side of the hoop, fold the lining piece over so the right side of the fabric is showing.
Still on the back side of the hoop, place the other 5”x5” lining piece, right side down along the
bottom edge of the zipper (shown by black line) as shown below.
Secure with tape or spray

On the front side of the hoop, place the remaining 5”x5” front piece right side down, with one
edge even with the bottom edge of the zipper (shown by the black line).
If you used tape on the zipper, remove it.

Sew step 7. This step sews the fabrics to the zipper.

Place the remaining 5”x4” piece of batting along the seam just sewn (shown by the black line) as
shown below on the left. Have one 5” edge along the seam line.

Fold the front piece down over the batting as shown in the photo on the right.
Sew step 8. This will sew quilting lines on the lower half

On the back side of the hoop, fold the lining piece down.

Unzip the zipper about half way

On the front side of the hoop, center the 5”x8” piece of fabric for the back, right side down on
top of the hoop.
Place the 5”x8” piece of batting on top of the fabric.
Sew step 9.
This step will sew a short seam at the bottom as shown in the photo below on the right.

Turn the hoop to the back side.

Center the 5”x8” lining piece, right side down, on the back side of the hoop.

Sew step 10. This step will sew the remaining part of the holder together.

Do Not sew the last step. The design is finished.

Remove the design from the hoop.

Trim around the design about ¼” from the stitching. I leave the 2 layers of lining fabric a bit
longer at the opening so they turn under nicely.
Clip the corners diagonally.

Turn the holder through the opening on the back side. Push out the corners.

Fold the raw lining edges to the inside and whipstitch the opening closed, taking small stitches
through the lining pieces only.
Trim away the wss from the zipper area.
Use a q-tip dipped in hot water to remove any remaining wss. Do not soak the entire case.

Fully open the zipper & turn the holder to the right side through the opening.
Push out all corners.
Lightly press using a dry iron, medium heat & a pressing cloth.
