The educational philosophy focuses on reconstructing society through education. A reconstructionist believes the current curriculum needs to be reformed to better prepare students for social change and solving real-world problems. A reconstructionist teacher aims to shape a new society by giving students experiences to critically examine their culture and diversity and get involved in social issues. The school is an institution that constructs new ideas to reform the curriculum while also addressing issues in the community. Students are the priority and are given opportunities to experience society and enhance their problem-solving and decision making skills. The goal is for students to see education's role in socializing them and acting morally in the real world.

RECONSTRUCTIONIST: MY EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY By: Roxanne Q. Rosco
My analytical web focuses on how the society can be understood better
through educating students how to analyze and adapt on changes that occurs in the community. Social change involves a reconstruction of education and the use of education in reconstructing society. It is true that society needs constant reconstruction for the better way of living through raising consciousness of students about social, economic and political problems. Having consciousness, students can develop critical thinking skills to solve these problems. Equipped with critical literacy, the ultimate goal to create a new society can be visualized. The three important agents in making this reform happen are the teacher, the student and the school. (1)The teacher’s role is to become the agent of change in shaping a new society. She opens the learners to critically examine their cultural heritage and diversity. She let the students be involved in societal problems and solutions for the students to learn what is right and wrong with their own experience. Educators aims to bring the world into the classroom or taking students to the community. Activities that I can perform as a Reconstructionist are role-playing, computer simulation, cooperative learning, internship, work-study experience and students’ autobiographies. (2)The school is the fundamental institution in modern society. It is a training and shaping ground for social and personal problems of the students and their experiences. The school leader who is a Reconstructionist constructs new ideas, concepts and meanings for rebuilding the curriculum. The school concern is not just what’s inside their boundaries but also the community around the school. Hence, social actions are done to solve real-life problems that helps teachers and mold students to become aware and educated in their journey to success. (3)The students are the apple of the eye of Reconstructionist. They are the prior concern to be enhanced with problem solving issues and decision making. Using the society as a wide scope to experience all the things and know themselves and be sensitive about others through the process. Therefore, I see myself as a Reconstructionist for I want my students to see the bigger picture that education is not just about academics and getting high grades but most importantly, education is about socializing and acting morally when engaging in the real world. It is about knowing your cultural heritage to define your unique qualities as well as your similar qualities as a person in the community. Achieving your goals with the society, the reformed curriculum or reformed way of life will reach success.
