1. You will develop and deliver a speech of demonstration or explanation. You will be responsible for
covering certain content and demonstrating specific speaking skills you have learned in this unit. Your
speech must be between four and six minutes.
Your speech will include the following:
• Content that informs by demonstrating or explaining how something happens or is done
• Introduction, transitions, and conclusion that help the audience comprehend the main ideas
• Organization that follows one of these patterns: spatial, causal, narrative, or process
• Information drawn from research in reliable sources
You will demonstrate the presentation skills you have been studying. They include the following:
• Effective eye contact, facial expressions, posture, and gesture
• Effective pacing, volume, and limiting of verbal clutter
• Effective use of props to reinforce content
You will brainstorm ideas, research your topic, make a rough outline of your speech, draft a speaking
outline, choose effective props, and practice your speech over the next several lessons. Your speech
must be video recorded with you on camera presenting the speech.

you understand how your work will be evaluated.
