SNAP

What is it?
 SNAP: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
o Formally known as Food Stamps
 “Cash Benefit” to purchase food
 Cash benefit is put on an electronic benefit card (EBT) monthly
o Between the 1st and 9th day of the month
 If the person’s SNAP case number ends in 1, their benefits will be available
on the 1st day of the month. If the person’s SNAP case number ends in 2, their
benefits will be available on the 2nd day of the month and so on
 SNAP case numbers are located on PC under the financial tab and in the
SNAP section

Who is eligible?
 Low income individuals
o Monthly income less than $1562
 Disabled individuals
o Monthly income less than $2082
 Therefore, nearly all individuals living in ADD’s housing are eligible for SNAP

Foods for the household to eat, such as, but not limited to:
 Breads and cereals
 Fruits and vegetables
 Meats, fish and poultry
 Dairy products
 Seeds and plants which produce food for the household to eat

Households CANNOT use SNAP benefits to buy:


 Beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes or tobacco
 Hot foods (Pre-Made food)
 Any nonfood items, such as:
o Pet foods
o Soaps, paper products
o Household supplies
o Vitamins and medicines

Expiration/Renewals
 SNAP cases for disabled adults typically last two years
o I recertify for most individuals (99% of all residents in ADD housing)
o Some individuals prefer to do it themselves or with a case manager
 SNAP BENEFITS EXPIRE
o IF SNAP BENEFITS ARE NOT USED WITHIN 1 YEAR THEY WILL
EXPIRE
