1 Read the text about this charity event. In which country is it?

The River Nile Bike Ride

Event date: 22nd to 30th October

Event location: Egypt

Join our River Nile Bike Ride and raise money for ‘Woodland World’, an environmental charity
that plants trees around the world. You will spend five days cycling along the bank of the river Nile
for a total of 400 kilometres. During the trip, you will visit some of the most famous sights in
Egypt: the Great Pyramids of Cairo, the Valley of the Kings in Luxor and the Dams of Aswan.

Our route will take you through a variety of exotic landscapes, including flat green farmland and
hot, dry desert. You will spend each night on a comfortable boat that follows the cycle party along
the river.

This trip will be a fantastic adventure and a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the
culture of Egypt while raising money for this important charity.

Itinerary

Day 1 Leave London for Cairo. Spend night in Cairo

Day 2 Visit the Pyramids (morning). Visit Khan el-Khalili market (afternoon). Fly to Luxor. Drive to
Esna to meet boat.

Day 3 (52km) First day of cycling. Cycle along the west bank of the Nile towards Edfu.

Day 4 (110km) Cycle from Edfu to Aswan.

Day 5 (44km) Cycle through Aswan to the High Dam. Visit the temples of Philae. Sail to Kom
Ombo.

Day 6 (122km) Cycle from Kon Ombo to Esna, through small villages.

Day 7 (80km) Cycle to Luxor. Cycle through the Valley of the Kings, on the west bank of the Nile,
opposite Luxor, and visit some tombs.

Day 8 A free day, with sightseeing tours.

Day 9 Fly from Luxor to Cairo, and then to London.
