STEP 2

Hello classmates and tutor, my name is Karen Daniela Silva Serpa, I am 21 years old, I was
born, live and work in Girón as a teacher in a private school. I am currently in 4 semesters in
the foreign languages degree with an emphasis on English.

STEP 3

The affective filter hypothesis

The hypothesis that identifies me in the acquisition of a second language is "The affective
filter hypothesis" because really since I was little my training in this area was not
significant, I was interested in learning this language but the teachers were very
monotonous in their classes, so I was unmotivated and took off the illusion of wanting to
learn it. I finished 11th grade and didn't really know anything about this second language. I
entered the complementary training program at the Escuela Normal Superior de
Bucaramanga, because I love teaching and I was trained as a teacher. Along the way I met
an excellent teacher who taught me strategies to teach English and I became interested in
English again, I was motivated again by this language, she was super charismatic and
taught everything from the game. I loved this experience. So, after graduating from the
Normal School, I made the decision to study the Bachelor's Degree in English because I
want to transmit my knowledge through the pedagogical strategies that this teacher taught
me, in addition to the ones that I will learn in this degree and thus be able to motivate the
students. students to learn this second language as she did, with all the vocation and
affection. In addition, a teacher with a good command of pedagogy makes a difference in
the academic life of a student who, due to insecurity, anxiety or any other reason, has had
difficulties learning the second language. The affective methodology allows to open the
mind to new learning by eliminating mental barriers.

STEP 4
COMMENT TO MY CLASSMATES:
JANNIA SOLIS:
Hello classmate Jannia I find the way you learned very interesting, since I can understand
that you learned with words that are said or used daily. What is similar in my learning is
that from experiences of everyday life I learned more.

JUAN CARLOS RINCON

Hello classmate, I like your way of learning because I can tell that you are very auditory
and I strongly agree that we all have different ways of learning. On the other hand, my
learning has been more visual, that's why I learned through strategies that a teacher taught
me.

XIOMARA ROBLES
Hello, classmate Xiomara, I find it very interesting the way you learned, you had the
opportunity to have a native speaker, which required you to learn and defend yourself in
order to communicate. The good thing is that little by little you are advancing for each day
to reach that purpose of speaking and understanding this beautiful language with ease.

DIEGO CASTILLO

Hello Diego, your way of learning is interesting, I also love listening to music in English
and I have learned more about this language, and sometimes I read short texts to try to
understand and relate the words and the idea of the text.

STEP 5
1. How do humans learn additional languages after they have learned their first?
As we already know and have strategies on how to learn a second language, it is easier for
us to learn another language, because we would apply the same strategies or similar
strategies and we could try which ones would serve us or perhaps learn other strategies.

2. What factors contribute to the variability observed in rates and outcomes of second
language learning?

The factors that evidence this variability is that there are individual differences, that is, each
one has different ways of learning. Also a factor is the exposure conditions because if
someone is in an environment where everyone speaks English or is taught English in a very
didactic way, it will be easy for them to learn. But if the environment is different, it will be
more difficult to learn. And finally the factor of linguistic complexity because many times
this part is not practiced much, but they focus more on grammar.

3. What does it take to attain advanced language and literacy competencies in a language
other than the mother tongue?

I think you need to be motivated first, then to acquire language and literacy skills, these
skills need to be greatly improved by listening to music, listening to people and
conversations in that second language. He also reads short texts, words with pictures, and
little by little create writings and conversations without fear of making mistakes if you don't
try to do it until you succeed. But we always push ourselves a little bit more by reading
faster texts and longer conversations. It is important to start with words from everyday life
to facilitate the second language.
