In the context of Lasallian Formation that we
intend to facilitate, Code Green would mean:
 To leave the “old self” behind; to
“evacuate” from high school life and enter
a new phase
 To allow the emergence of a new person
--- the Lasallian student
 To integrate oneself in the “green”
community of DLSMHSI (since green is our
official color)
 To be animated (get excited) about an
entirely new world of education that
teaches the mind, touches the heart and
that transforms lives
 To be on the GO (as in green light means
go…) meaning, to be proactive; responsive;
creative; dynamic
Green is the color of hope. Green signals the
coming of new life. Green calls us all to be formed
in faith, zeal for service and communion in mission.
The De La Salle Philippines
• De La Salle Philippines is a network of Lasallians
within the Lasallian East Asia District
established to facilitate collaboration in the
Lasallian Mission and the promotion of the
spirit of faith, zeal for service and communion in
mission that together, are at the heart of the
journey of our Founder, John Baptist de La

Two symbols play a significant role in the life of the
Brothers and the members of the Lasallian Family. The
star and the broken chevrons.
 The Star. The five pointed star at the center is
the Signum Fidei star. It is the sign of faith and
the symbol officially used by the Institute of
Scholarum Christianarum abbreviated as FSC
also known as De La Salle Brothers in 80 plus
countries).
• It has as its origin the Star of Bethlehem which
led the Magi (wise men of the East) to the birth
of Christ. The star is a sign of faith that has led
countless Brothers and members of the
Lasallian Family in doing the Lasallian Mission
in many parts of the world.
“Forever
United”
• Broken Chevrons and Indivisa Manent. The
house of De La Salle was first established in
Urgel, an area of Catalonia, Spain, where the
form of the family name was “Salla.” The head
of the family, Johan Salla, Warrior in Chief of
Atphonus the Chaste, King of Oviedo, expelled
the Moors from Urgel and reestablished the
Episcopal See in 818.
• The broken legs he sustained during combat as
he fought side by side with his king are the
origin of the broken chevrons on the
De La Salle’s coat of arms.
• In the 13th Century, the La Salle family migrated
to the Basque province in the south of France,
and though their name became French, they
retained “Salla!” as their battle cry.
• The ancient motto of the family is “Que sien
dialect means “Let us all be united!” or “Let us
all stick together!” The Rheims branch of the
family translated this motto into the Latin
“Indivisa Manent,” which is the present
wording of the motto on the coat of arms,
literally translated as “Permanently
Indivisible”.
The De La Salle Medical & Health Sciences Institute
(DLSMHSI) is a full- complement medical and health
allied institution that provides holistic, excellent,
and premium health professions education, health
care and research services in a nurturing God-
centered environment as it pursues its commitment
of Nurturing life.
• The Institute is composed of three major
services: Academics, De La Salle University
Medical Center, and the DLSMHSI Angelo King
Medical Research Center; and two institutional:
Lasallian Mission and Linkages and Finance and
Administration.
DLSMHSI’s ministry of nurturing life is exemplified by
the services provided by these individually or together,
as one, in communion in mission, through:

A Brief History of the De La Salle Medical &Health
Sciences Institute
The De La Salle Medical & Health Sciences
Institute today is a premier higher education institution
that forms future medical and health allied
professionals who will have the commitment and
dedication to become catalysts of the spiritual, social,
and economic transformation of our country. Its roots
are equally noble. In 1977,
 the University Physicians Foundation, Inc, was
organized to establish a medical school in City
of Dasmariñas, Cavite, in support of the then
government’s policy of dispersing educational
facilities outside the capital city and
encouraging the establishment of medical
schools in various regions of the country to
ensure the delivery of quality health care in the
regions.
 Originally named Emilio Aguinaldo College of
Medicine, the school opened in 1979 with the
Jose P. Rizal National Medical Research Center
as its initial teaching hospital.
 In 1980, the Foundation acquired 1.2 hectares
of additional property and construction was
started for a 180-bed teaching hospital. This 4-
storey hospital, the University Medical Center,
was inaugurated on July 31, 1982.
 In 1985, the construction of the second 4-storey
Medical Research Building for the College of
Medicine started. These were the forerunners
of today’s De La Salle University Medical Center.
 In June 1987, the ownership and management
of the Emilio Aguinaldo College of Medicine and
the University Medical Center were acquired by
the De La Salle University.
 The College of Medicine was renamed the De La
Salle University-Emilio Aguinaldo College of
Medicine and the hospital the De La Salle
University Medical Center.
 Since the De La Salle Brothers assumed
ownership of both the hospital and the college,
both have steadily grown. In 1990, the De La
Salle University Medical Center continued its
expansion with the inauguration of the WU
Building.
 In 1992, the college was renamed the De La
Salle University College of Medicine. On April 7,
1994, the De La Salle University Angelo King
Medical Research Center was established. In
June 1994, the management of the College of
Physical Therapy which was then part of DLSU-
Aguinaldo (now DLSU-Dasmariñas) was turned
over to the De La Salle University College of
Medicine.
 By June 1995, the complex consisting of the
College of Medicine, University Medical Center,
College of Physical Therapy and Research
Services was named De La Salle University –
Health Sciences Campus or DLSU-HSC under the
ownership and administration of the St. Bro.
Miguel Febres Cordero Medical Education
Foundation
 The DLSU Medical center continued to grow
with the opening of the 10-storey Teodorica
Favis Vda. De Rivero Hall in 1997 and of the
one-storey Jose Sotto Tantiansu Center Institute
in 1988. In January 1999, the Institute of
Continuing Education for the Health
Professionals (formerly Institute of Graduate
Studies) was established.
 In October 1999, the De La Salle University
Medical Center gained the distinction of being
the first hospital in the Philippines to have been
awarded an ISO 9001 Certification by the TUV–
Rheinland.
 In May 2000, more colleges were placed under
the administration of the DLSU-Health Sciences
Campus with the transfer of the Colleges of
Medical Radiation Technology and Nursing and
Midwifery from the De La Salle University-
Dasmariñas.
 Eventually, the institution’s name became De La
Salle Health Sciences Institute upon approval of
the Board of Trustees in September 2007. The
change of the name was arrived at to signal the
Institution’s reinvigorated drive to pursue its
mission and make a difference as a leading
health education and care institution in the
country.
 At present, the Institute offers academic
programs through its seven (7) colleges:
Medicine, Rehabilitation Sciences, College of
Medical Imaging and Therapy, Nursing,
Humanities and Sciences, Pharmacy, and
Medical Laboratory Science. As it continuously
pursues academic excellence, the Institute
prides itself with the consistent outstanding
performance of its graduates in licensure
examinations.
 Today, as it celebrates its 25th year as a
Lasallian institution (and 35th year as a
pioneering health care and education institution
in Cavite), DLSHSI now DLSMHSI takes pride in
being the innovative leader in health care,
education, and medical research in the region.
 We are in communion in mission with Lasallians
worldwide and in synergy with local and
international partners in catalyzing the spiritual,
social and economic transformation of our
community and country.
