What I Need to Know

Drawings and plans are integral parts of the creation of desired outcomes in
carpentry work. They are used to interconnect the technical details of a project in a
common format that should be precise and comprehensive.

This module helps you to venture on the different steps of freehand sketching
that are significant in understanding technical drawings. It offers you with numerous
activities for the development of your skills and understanding on freehand sketching
that are created in accordance with the work necessities. Furthermore, you will also
be exposed with different exercises that will improve your freehand drawing skills. In
general, this module aspires not only for you to develop freehand sketches but also
to further use them in the future especially for those who will take carpentry,
architecture and engineering courses.

Learning Objectives

After using this module, you are expected to be able to:

 Perform freehand sketching exercises
 Draw simple carpentry plans based on given tasks

What I Know

This pre-assessment activity will determine your ideas about

Applying Freehand Sketching before going further in this
module. If you got 90%-100%, skip this module.

Directions: Draw the ortographic view of this technical drawing. Do it in the space
provided after the drawing. You will be graded through the rubric that follows. Give
your best shot!

Great job for completing the pre-assessment! Now, let us have a glimpse of your
past lesson in which you learn how to Interpret Technical Drawings and Plans.

Directions: In this activity, you need to make a technical drawing of an oval shaped
table applying the 3 main view and the isometric view with the corresponding labels.
You will be graded according to the same scoring rubric from the past activity. You
may draw in the space below.

Way to go! As you dig deeper in technical drawings, you have to
know specifically on how to make them. From the short story
below, you will come to know some terminologies of technical
drawings. I am quite sure that you can still recall the story of Mang
Karpyo and would be glad for the third part. Below, is the continuation of the story.

Directions: Read and understand the short story, and afterwards, answer the
different questions that follows.

Mang Karpyo is now ready to study more about technical

drawings. Mr. Pen Try taught him that there are two types of technical
drawings: isometric and orthographic. There are also specific steps in
drawing them.
Mr. Pen Try taught him the steps in sketching the isometric box,
sketching orthographic drawing and the steps in sketching isometric
drawing of a given orthographic figure.
They both have fun time in sketching although Mang Karpyo is
not that good in drawing. However, it is nice that he tried and he
believed that there are still room for improvements. His perseverance to
learn is a great proof that he is ready to learn new things.

Questions:
1. What are the two types of technical drawings that are mentioned in the
story?

What’s in it?
From the above-mentioned story, the technical drawings were
emphasized. Let us dig deeper towards them. Read and
understand the following informations with comprehension. This
will help you familiarize the different freehand sketching
techniques. While on the process of learning the informations below,
please find time to answer these guide questions with the help of parents, guardians,
and elder sibling or extended family members.

Direction: Answer the following guide questions.
