Rationale
There are a lot of activities and facilities that can hurt us in this world both man-made and

natural calamities that constantly struck our country. This is what you call a hazard, hazard is

any agent that can cause harm or damage to humans, property or the environment. In hopes to
reduce the probability of students getting into accidents our group has made a hazard map in

specific areas of the school namely the Gr.4 classroom, BS Criminology classroom its

surroundings and the open space. To be more informed, hazard map is a kind of map that

highlights areas that are affected by or are vulnerable to a particular hazard. A hazard map

helps to prevent serious damage and deaths. Furthermore this performance task of ours would

help provide information to people and to help them understand the risks. Hazard maps

indicate the extent of expected risk areas. This helps us take measures to tackle the disasters

and be prepared to handle situations and emergencies. Not many people take this seriously as

they only see hazard maps as useless and would just ignore information about this but this

should not be the case, aside from informing people of hazard maps this will also make them

understand the importance of hazard maps or maps in general. We can’t do anything to

reduce hazard they will forever be part of our surroundings but what we can do is to be aware

and to broaden our knowledge. When the time comes your knowledge and preparedness

about hazard maps may save you from disasters and calamities, since hazard maps indicate

the extent of expected risk areas, and can be combined with disaster management information

such as evacuation sites, evacuation routes, and so forth. To improve students’ level of

awareness on the potential hazards and risk within and around schools, to increase the

participation of children in addressing potential disaster by reducing vulnerabilities, and to

inculcate a culture of safety in the day-to-day experience of children in school are some of

our main objectives in this task.
