B. Ed. – The Bachelor of Education programme, generally known as B.Ed., is a


professional course that prepares teachers for upper primary or middle level,
secondary level and senior secondary level classes of school education. The
programme provides a platform to enable students to understand the central
concepts, tools of inquiry and structures of discipline of Education in general and
teacher education in particular.

BCA/MCA – The programme aims at inculcating essential skills as demanded by


the industry through an interactive learning process. This includes audio/video
presentations, team building skills and personality development programmes.

MBA –Considering the importance of practical exposure and real-world business


attributes, the programme emphasizes on global intelligence, research orientation,
personality development, cultural knowledge, and area-specific expertise required
to function in a dynamic business world. All the students need to take up live
industry projects, internships, case discussions, and associate with industry experts
on one-on-one basis for inclusive learning.

Ph. D. – The University promotes innovation and excellence in research education

The GLS University has its own pay structure to recruit high calibre, skilled and
experience faculty. This structure is better than the salary structure fixed by UGC.
The University has other additional benefits such as medical insurance scheme for the
staff and their family, group insurance, reimbursement for books and periodicals,
personal telephone, medical expenses etc.

As a part of faculty development initiative, the University has a policy of


encouraging the faculty to participate in seminars and conferences. This includes
sending the faculty overseas universities also.

16.1 Strengths of the University

• GLS University is promoted by Gujarat Law Society founded by Shri Sardar


Vallabhbhai Patel, has a rich legacy of more than 80 years worth existence. This
ensures sound experience, systems and processes embedded in the structure and
functioning of the University.

• The University has a robust base of well established vision, strategies and
operations in place.

• The University is located in the central business district in the heart of the city,
which is easily accessible by the students and other stakeholders such as
corporate, alumni etc. This ensures better exposure to the students, as they can
closely work with nearby organizations on experiential learning post their study
period.

• The University has exceptional faculty members, with around 50% being Ph.D /
into last leg of submitting thesis OR NET/SLET qualified. Several faculty
members have industry experience. This ensures phenomenal academic
delivery.

• The University has modern infrastructure, with so many air-conditioned


classrooms, state of art auditorium, Labs, library, sports ground, open air theatre
etc. The entire campus is digital and enabled with Wi-Fi. This ensures a very
smooth academic conduct.

• The University has several e-resources, which ensure furtherance of research


initiatives and creation of better outputs.

• The University has decent international liaisons through its sponsoring body in
different countries such as UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand. The
University invites faculty from these countries and also closely works with
universities abroad on organizing joint international conferences, students’
projects, joint faculty researches etc.

• The sponsoring body has a strong alumni base of more than a million
professionals, entrepreneurs, government bureaucrats and artisans, contributing
immensely to the equity, academic rigour and mentorship capabilities for the
existing students.

• The constituent programmes of the University has witnessed phenomenal


placements year on year; this ensured the increase in preference and ranking by
the students.

• University has put UMS – University management System in place enabling all
stakeholders to an access on 24 x 7 basis.
16.2 Weaknesses of the University

• The campus of the University being in the prime area of Ahmedabad has its
limitations with respect to expansion in the current location.

• Being a new set-up, the university may have to witness a lot of teething troubles
which may be hurdles towards its ambitious targets.

• University will have to depend on out-of-campus & organized accommodation


till it creates its own residential facilities for staff and students.

Item  No.2:  Appointment  of  Mr.  Sudhir  Nanavati,  President  of  the  Universit y  by  the 
Gujarat Law Society, G overning Board  

The  members  were  informed  of  the  Resolut ion  passed  by  the  Governing  Board  of  the 
Gujarat  Law  Societ y  in  the  meeting  held  on  March  7,  2015.  The  appointment   of  the 
President  is  done  by  the  sponsoring  body  as  per  the  Gujarat  Private  Universit ies  Act, 
2009  and  Mr.  Sudhir  Nanavati  is  appoint ed  as  the  first  President  of  GLS  Universit y  in 
accordance with the said act.   
 

Item No.3: Gujarat P rivate Universities Act, 2009 

Members  were  informed  of  t he  Gujarat  Privat e  Universities  Act,  2009  an d  copies  of  the 
same  made  available   to  them  for  reference  at   any  time.  This  was  done  as  it  was  the  1 s t  
Meeting  of  the  Governing  Body  and  the  Act  stipulat es  statutory  requirement s  for  the 
University. 

Item  No.4:  To  inform  the  members  about  issuance  of  Gazette  notification  for 
establishment  of  GLS  University  as  well  as  Government  Notification  for  the  s aid 
purpose 

Mr.  Sudhir  Nanav at i,  President  informed  the  members  about  the  Notificat ion  issued  by 
Educat ion  Department,  Government  of  Gujarat  with  regards  to   establishment  of  GLS 
University  under  t he  Gujarat  Privat e  Universities  Act,  2009  as  an  amendment  to  t he  said 
Act (Act No. 3 of 2015) on 15 t h  April, 2015.    

He  furt her  informed  the  members  t hat  Government  of  Gujarat  has  released  Gazette  on 
11 t h  March, 2015. Est ablishment dat e of GLS University is 15 t h  April, 2015.  

Item  No.5:  To  circulat e  and  adopt  the  first  set   of  Stat utes  and  Ordinances  for  GLS 
University 

A  copy  of  the  first  Statutes  and  Ordinances  was  placed  on  t he  table  for  approval  of  all
