B. New Look of Chosen Technology
- New name of the technology: Water dispenser
- Year it was invented or developed. Indicate Country: 1906 in the United States
- Inventor/s: Halsey Willard Taylor and Luther Haws

Water is a basic and constant need in human life. Therefore, people would
naturally find ways to drink water to their utmost comfort. From the historical use of jars
as water container in our homes, the latest technology has invented water dispensers in
response to today’s needs and wants. This kind of invention was developed way back in
1906 by Halsey Willard Taylor and Luther Haws then later patented in 1911. They
produced a device which made it easier to supply fresh and chilled water, during a
period when drinking chilled water became a trend. However, this water cooler was
believed to be invented for the primary reason of providing purified water. Luther Haws’
father died because of typhoid fever resulting from drinking contaminated water, among
many other people during such times.
Today, the water dispensers includes a function of providing cool, warm, and hot
water which caters to the people’s different preferences, which makes our lives’ easier
by eliminating the time spent for boiling or cooling water. These have evolved to be
more compact, light, energy efficient and come in a variety of models to suit the
consumers’ needs and wants. They must also adhere to strict regulations in order to
meet health, sanitation, and environmental standards. Their system filters unwanted
contaminants and even allows for the preservation of the water. This will make people
feel safer in the quality of the water for their families. However, it also has some
negative impacts to the people and the society, such as the fact that it is too expensive
for those who cannot afford it or when people felt a need to buy it just to show off.
Additionally, it makes use of electricity which is less environment-friendly and also
pricier as compared to a simple water container.
