The life and works of Jose Rizal

The Introductory Question:

1.What is the importance of studying Rizal’s life, his writing?

It is important to study Rizal’s life and his writing including other Heroes because the
contribution they give to the country is priceless. Both his life and works teaches how to live
amidst of hard times and situations. To overcome our conflicts with using brute force sometimes
is the better way.

2.Why is Rizal’s one of the minor subjects taken up in college?

Because it is mandated by law the teaching of Jose Rizal’s life, works, and writings is
mandated by Republic Act 1425, otherwise known as the Rizal Law

3.Why is Rizal is included in the course outline?’

Because it is mandated by law the teaching of Jose Rizal's life, works, and writings is
mandated by Republic Act 1425, otherwise known as the Rizal Law.

4. What relevance does Rizal have in college Education?

It is important to study the life of Jose Rizal because of his input towards the independence of
the Philippines. He chose to fight for his country through knowledge and the power of letters.
He noticed the continued suffering of his countrymen at the hands of the Spaniards and sought
to put an end to this situation

5. Why is Jose Rizal the national hero?

Rizal was given special attention as a hero by the American colonial administration, because he
was interpreted to represent peaceful political advocacy.

It is important to study Rizal’s life and his writing including other Heroes because the
contribution they give to the country is priceless.

It is important to study the life of Jose Rizal because of his input towards the independence
of the Philippines. He chose to fight for his country through knowledge and the power of

C. Why Jose Rizal is the National hero?
Because he fought for freedom in a silent but powerful way. He expressed his love for
the Philippines through his novels, essays and articles rather than through the use of
force or aggression. He was humble, fighting for reforms through his writings instead of
through a revolution. He used his intelligence, talents and skills in a more peaceful way
rather than the aggressive way.

D. Do you believe that Rizal course is necessary for Filipinos?

- Yes, because we can learn a lot of things from Rizal and his life which we can apply to
this modern time and will help us mold into a better citizen of this country.

E. Are Rizal ideas still valid and application in today’s word? Why or why not?

- Yes, because not all battles are won with violence and rage, being knowledgeable about
the topic nowadays and able to defend your idea is much better.

F. Do you think the global situation during the time of Jose Rizal influenced and justified the
attitudes of the people and the political perspective of one nation?

- Yes because in Rizal’s time, there were so many global situations just like the struggle
for nationalism and gradual spread of democracy to name a few. This will really affect
how people of a certain nation acts and their political perspective. Just like the
Philippines that was colonized for 333 years of Spaniards, these times where the
revolution made their actions bold and known.

- Rizal’s mother Teodora Alonso Realonda was known for being a disciplinarian as well as
a dedicated, religious, courteous and hard- working mother while his father, Francisco
Mercado was an independent-minded, taciturn but dynamic gentleman from whom Jose
inherited his ‘free soul.’
b. Is having a big family an advantage/disadvantage in the personality development of Rizal?

- It is an advantage for him because having a big family teaches him to love more and
unconditionally which led to his love for his country.

c. Does the DNA of a person carry ancestral identity? Explain.

- Yes. As DNA is passed down through the generations from parents to offspring and so
you would have some DNA that is similar to what your ancestors would have had.
