School Reopen Plan

September 24, 2020

Dear Thunderbolt Brick and Mortar Families,

First, Thank you for your exibility and understanding.
As you know, on Tuesday, Sept. 22, we decided to close the Palm Harbor campus for 14 day,
through October 2. That was not a quarantine of the entire school; only a quarantine of anyone
who had been in "close contact" with the one positive case as per the CDC's guidelines. The
affected areas had to be deep-cleaned and disinfected and off-limits for 24 hours, and in order
to comply, the campus had to be closed for at least that long. Also, because those in the
quarantine included both Ms. Keller and me, as well as about a third of our total staff, we
decided that the best way to keep the entire teaching and learning process functioning as
smoothly as possible under the circumstances was to switch to distance education through
October 2.

UPDATE: Good news! We are now able to provide appropriate coverage for all of the employees
who are quarantined, and so we will reopen our campus tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 25!

Learning and teaching will continue via Google Classroom for those people who were deemed
to have "close contact" and will continue to quarantine. They have received a separate
correspondence. If you did not receive a separate noti cation, your student may return and
continue to attend school as normal per your nine-week selection.

Our goal remains to make the best choices under the circumstances in the most timely
manner to maintain the safety, health, and wellbeing of all students and staff. We have
consulted with the health department, Plato Academy Schools Leadership, Pinellas County
Schools Charter O ce, and Plato’s COVID task force throughout the process.

We continue to encourage all parents to monitor students closely and report any sign of
potential illness or Covid-19 symptoms to the school. Students should remain at home if they
are exhibiting any of the following symptoms: fever, new or persistent cough, runny nose or
congestion, new or unusual headache, sore throat, chills, loss of taste or smell, muscle or
body aches, fatigue, and/or stomach issues (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea).

Please visit the CDC’s website at https://www.cdc.gov for more information. We are doing
everything we can to ensure the health and safety of your child. If you have any questions,
please call us at 727-205-6360.
As this situation has shown we all need to be prepared in case another closure should occur.
Please reach out to me at principalpalmharbor@platoacademy.net if you have any questions
or concerns. If because there is understandable uncertainty about whether additional cases
may arise and you prefer to keep your child in distance education through October 2 anyway,
please make sure to let me know so we can keep correct records about which students are
returning tomorrow as opposed to after October 2.

Thank you for your patience during this important matter.

Please share a short anecdote, story, or a thank you to any staff member.
