Make Your Own Island Treasure Map

You will be drawing an island and hiding a treasure somewhere on it. Your island will

need to incorporate a number of landforms. Your instructions to find the treasure will

need to include important geographic skills using mapping elements. Be creative.

Requirements:
Your island must have a theme

Your island must be colored

Physical Landform Requirements:

Total of 35 Landforms

Landforms must be labeled with a name, matching the theme

Mapping Elements Requirements:

A compass rose in a corner (w/Cardinal & Intermediate Directions)

A scale bar

Include a legend/key

A latitude and longitude grid system

Instructions for Finding Treasure Requirements (written on back):

Minimum of 5 steps between starting point and treasure location

Each step must include distance, direction, & coordinate pair.

Label each step on map, including start & treasure

Total of 35 Landforms = Anything from pink paper or of your own choosing.

Minimum of 5 steps between starting point and treasure location=

Start: Find Candy Corn Mountain (100°S, 225°E)

Step 1: Go North 20 miles until you reach a cliff in the shape of a twix (50°N, 225°E)
Step 2: Travel west 12 miles through a valley until you reach a cove (50°N, 150°E)
Step 3: Swim SW for 3miles until you reach Skittles Island (40°N, 140°E)
Step 4: Walk 1.5 miles NW on the Island until you reach a river (45°N, 135°E)
Step 5: Find .5 miles E of river the plain with three trees (45°N, 137°E)
Treasure: In the trunk of the tree the most south of trees on the plain (44°N, 138° E)
