FAQ, Tips & Tricks

● For all brush related questions and tips & tricks, please check my FAQ:

● All brushes can also be used as eraser as well as smudge tool to achieve a consistent look & feel.

● Choose normal, glaze or wet paint mode to use them as ink brushes, markers or paint brushes. You
can switch the brush render mode with three buttons in the "Dynamics" tab of the new Procreate 4
brush menu.

● Adjust the amount of "Bleed" (hard edges) in the "Pen" tab of the brush menu to fit your canvas size,
resolution, and inking style.

● Remove grain or reduce jitter if you prefer a cleaner line art.

● Adjust the streamlining setting (stroke correction feature) to fit your style.

● Play with opacity, try out pressure, tilt and speed sensitivity to use the brushes to their full potential.

How to use the brushes as marker

● Set brush render mode to “Glaze” (3 buttons in the “Dynamics” tab of the brush menu).

● Build up your colors from light to dark. Use separate layers for your colors and set the blending mode
to “multiply” (or “color burn”).

● Place a 50% gray watercolor paper texture layer above your painting layers. Set blending mode to
“Overlay” (or “Multiply”) to apply additional texture to your painting. Adjust brightness/color if needed.

● Here’s a great digital watercolor tutorial by Zoe Piel, many of her tips are useful for drawing and
coloring with marker brushes too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upARsyc6d88

How to use the brushes as wet painter

● Set brush render mode to “Wet paint” (3 buttons in the “Dynamics” tab of the brush menu).

● With some brushes, the colors runs out at the end of each brush stroke. To control the amount of color
applied with each stroke, adjust the color load in the “Dynamics” tab of the brush menu.

● Keep on painting without lifting your stylus/finger to blend with other colors/strokes. With each new
stroke the brush is loaded with color again.
● Use the brushes as smudge tools if don’t want to apply additional color. Use them as eraser to define
forms and add interesting details while keeping a consistent look and feel.

● Play with size and opacity to make your painting look natural and interesting.

● If you have a pressure, tilt and speed sensitive stylus adjust the respective brush settings to fit your
personal preferences and painting style.

● Place a 50% gray paper/canvas texture layer above of your painting layers. Set blending mode to
“Overlay” (or “Multiply”) to apply additional texture to your painting. Adjust brightness/color if needed.
