1. Describe the effect of the following factors on the strength, density and transparency of a
polymer:

(i) Stretching of a linear chain polymers

(ii) Increasing molecular weight

2. Illustrate with suitable sketching, the stress-strain responses of a crystalline and semi-crystalline
material.

3. Define a composite material. Give an example for each of the composite materials having metal,
ceramic and polymer as the matrix phase. And describe the advantages of composites as
compared to metal, ceramics and polymers.

4. Describe the effect of different types of fiber reinforcement on the strength of a polymer
composites.
