Warning: After disconnecting, disassembling or replacing this Flex-Door relevant component, the following system safety check must be
carried out:
Initiate a system check by accelerating to a minimum speed of 4 km/h or above; neither the Flex-Door malfunction indicator light in the
instrument cluster should illuminate nor should any Flex-door warning chime be audible.
Preliminary Procedures
1. Prepare the body control module for replacement, refer to Control Module References for programming and set-up information.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
3. Remove the instrument panel lower trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel Replacement .
4. Remove the left floor air outlet duct. Refer to Floor Air Outlet Duct Replacement - Left Side .

Removal Procedure

Note: Arrange a place to embed the removed parts.
1. Install the MDI, turn on the ignition and read out the trouble codes.
Delete them and read out the trouble codes again. If there are any trouble codes notice them.
35. Remove the rear end trim finish panel. Refer to Rear End Trim Finish Panel Replacement .
36. Remove the rear compartment floor panel carpet. Refer to Rear Compartment Floor Panel Carpet Replacement .
37. Remove the front floor panel carpet. Refer to Front Floor Panel Carpet Replacement .
38. Remove the rear floor panel carpet. Refer to Rear Floor Panel Carpet Replacement .
39. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
40. Remove the rear wheelhousing panel lining right side. Refer to Rear Wheelhouse Panel Liner Replacement .
41. Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel tank filler flap lock actuator.
42. Disconnect the electrical connector from the electrical handbrake control module.
43. Disconnect the electrical connector from the front wheel speed sensor, left and right side.
44. Disconnect the rear wheel speed sensor wiring harness plug.
45. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
46. Make pictures from the routing and fixing points of the body wiring harness for the orientation.
47. Release all fixations.
48. Disconnect all related electrical connectors and unscrew the ground cables at the in the passenger compartment.
49. Release all mass connectors of the instrument panel wiring harness.
50. Release the X1 plug connector at the A-pillar using the BO-569-A plug lifter between the instrument panel and the body wiring
harness.
51. Remove the instrument panel wiring harness. Refer to Instrument Panel Wiring Harness Replacement .
52. Secure the HVAC module at the body.
53. Remove the body wiring harness guidance in the firewall and draw-out the body wiring harness from the engine compartment through
the passenger compartment.
54. Take care about destroyed cable straps and harness guidance regarding noises and rattle.
55. Remove the old body wiring harness and lay it on the floor.
56. Unpack the new body wiring harness and compare the old with the new harness concerning quantity of fixing points, cable straps,
guides, part numbers and pin assignments.
Installation Procedure

1. After compare the new with the old harness lay the new body wiring harness into the passenger compartment and carry the new
harness through the firewall into the engine compartment.
Note: Check that there is no rotation and fix the new body wiring harness.
Note: Take care for the correct counterpart and the pin assignment. Use the pictures for orientation and use new cable straps.
4. Install the body wiring harness on the instrument panel tie bar.
5. Connect all electrical connectors in the passenger compartment, install all mass cables.
6. Tighten all mass cables to the weld studs to 9 N·m (80 lb in) .
Note: Take care about rotations. Use the pictures for correct orientation and use new cable straps.
7. Install the instrument panel wiring harness. Refer to Instrument Panel Wiring Harness Replacement .
8. Ensure that the instrument panel wiring harness is correctly positioned and secured.
Note: Use the pictures for correct orientation and use new cable straps.
9. Connect the X1 plug connector at the A-pillar between the instrument panel and the body wiring harness.
10. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
Note: Use the pictures for the correct routing. Use new cable straps.
11. Connect the rear wheel speed sensor wiring harness plug.
12. Connect the electrical connector from the front wheel speed sensor, left and right side.
13. Connect the electrical connector from the electrical handbrake control module.
14. Connect the electrical connector from the fuel tank filler flap lock actuator.
15. Install the rear wheelhousing panel lining right side. Refer to Rear Wheelhouse Panel Liner Replacement .
16. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
17. Previous to the installation of the front and rear carpet, clean the car inside and remove all used tools.
18. Install the rear floor panel carpet. Refer to Rear Floor Panel Carpet Replacement .
19. Install the front floor panel carpet. Refer to Front Floor Panel Carpet Replacement .
20. Install the rear compartment floor panel carpet. Refer to Rear Compartment Floor Panel Carpet Replacement .
21. Install the rear end trim finish panel. Refer to Rear End Trim Finish Panel Replacement .
22. Install the rear compartment spare wheel stowage cover carpet. Refer to Rear Compartment Spare Wheel Stowage Cover Carpet
Replacement .

23. Install the rear compartment stowage shelf. Refer to Rear Compartment Stowage Shelf Replacement .
24. Install the headlining trim panel. Refer to Headlining Trim Panel Replacement .
25. Install the front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
26. Install the instrument panel assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement .
27. Install the front floor console rail bracket. Refer to Front Floor Console Rail Bracket Replacement .
28. Install both windscreen side trim mouldings. Refer to Windscreen Side Garnish Moulding Replacement .
29. Install the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
30. Install the windshield wiper and washer switch. Refer to Windscreen Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement .
31. Install the turn signal multifunction switch. Refer to Indicator Multifunction Switch Replacement .
32. Install the driver information display. Refer to Driver Information Display Replacement .
33. Install the radio front centre speaker. Refer to Radio Front Centre Speaker Replacement .
34. Install the HVAC remote control assembly. Refer to Heater and Air Conditioning Remote Control Replacement .
35. Install the instrument panel lower trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel Replacement .
36. Install the instrument panel compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
37. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
38. Install the rear seat (centre). Refer to Rear Seat Replacement .
39. Install the rear seats (outer). Refer to Rear Seat Replacement .
40. Install the driver and the passenger seat. Refer to Driver or Passenger Seat Replacement .
41. Install the front side door, left and right side. Refer to Front Side Door Replacement .
42. Adjust the front side door as needed. Refer to Front Side Door Adjustment .
43. Connect the indicator lamps at the wing, left and right side.
44. Connect the electrical connector from the windscreen washer pump.
45. Install the front bumper fascia. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement .
46. Connect all related electrical connectors and tighten the mass cables in the engine compartment. Tighten all mass cables to the weld
studs to 9 N·m (80 lb in) .
Note: Take care about rotations. Use the pictures for correct orientation and use new cable straps.

47. Ensure that the body wiring harness is correctly positioned and secured.
48. Install the windshield wiper system module. Refer to Windscreen Wiper System Module Replacement .
49. Install the electronic brake and traction control module. Refer to Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module Replacement .
Note: Tighten the antilock brake system control module fastener after the installation of the brake pipes and the vacuum brake
booster due to have more clearance.
50. Install the power vacuum brake booster. Refer to Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement .
51. Install the radiator surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement .
52. Install the front compartment fuse block housing. Refer to Front Compartment Fuse Block Housing Replacement .
53. Install the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement .
54. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement .
55. Install the MDI, turn on the ignition and read out the trouble codes. If there are any stored DTCs, delete them and read out the trouble
codes again.
56. Program the volatile memory Volatile Memory Programming and then check all electrical functions and make a test run.
57. Clean the car outside and inside.

Ignition and Start Switch Housing Bolt (Qty: 2)
Procedure
1. Use any of the following common tools in order to remove the ignition and start switch housing bolts:
1
• An angle grinder and a screwdriver
• A chisel
• A screw extractor
• A centre punch
2. Discard the old ignition and start switch housing bolts.
3. Install 1 NEW ignition and start switch housing bolt and tighten until the bolt head breaks off.

Ignition Lock Cylinder Interlock
1 Procedure
1. Insert a pin with a diameter of 2 mm into the hole on the upper side of the ignition lock cylinder housing.
2. Push the pin down and turn the key ignition lock cylinder clockwise into the ignition position.

1. Locate the relay. Refer to the Master Electrical Component List to locate the relay in the vehicle.
2. Remove any fasteners which hold the relay in place.
3. Remove any connector position assurance (CPA) devices or secondary locks.
Note: Use care when removing a relay in a wiring harness when the relay is secured by fasteners or tape.
4. Separate the relay (1) from the wire harness connector (2).

1. Connect the relay (1) to the wire harness connector (2).
2. Install any connector position assurance (CPA) devices or secondary locks.
3. Install the relay using any fasteners or tape that originally held the relay in place.

Removal Procedure
1. Remove the electrical center cover.
2. Locate the relay. Refer to Electrical Centre Identification Views to locate the electrical centre where the relay exists.
Note:
• If equipped with a notch style relay; observe the location of the notch on the old relay to verify the new relay is installed with the
notch in the same location.
• Ensure that the electrical centre is secure, as not to put added stress on the wires or terminals.

3. Using the EL 43244 relay puller pliers (1) position the tool on opposing corners of the relay (2).
Caution: Use EL-43244 to pull the relay straight out from the electrical center terminals. The use of pliers or a flat bladed tool could
damage the electrical centre.

1. Install the relay (2) in the same position as removed.
2. Install the electrical center cover.
