Body:
Causes of cataract
1. Age-related: These form as you get older.

2. Congenital: This is what doctors call it when babies are born with cataracts.

They may be caused by infection, injury, or poor development in the womb.
Or, they can form in childhood.

3. Traumatic: These form after an injury to the eye

4. Secondary. These happen as a result of other medical conditions,

like diabetes. They can also result from being around toxic substances,
ultraviolet light, or radiation, or from taking medicines such as
corticosteroids or diuretics.

5. Radiation therapy

6. Ultraviolet radiation

7. Smoking

8. An overproduction of oxidants: which are oxygen molecules that have

been chemically altered due to normal daily life

9. Phenothiazine drugs such as chlorpromazine (Thorazine®): used to

treat a variety of conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
10.Overexposure to UV rays: How often do you go outside without
wearing eye protection or sunscreen? You are doing irreparable damage
to your eyes by not protecting them from the sun’s damaging rays.

11.Eating an unhealthy diet: A high-fat, low-fiber diet does not provide the
essential vitamins and nutrients that your body needs. Healthy vision
requires a diet centered on vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean proteins,
and a small amount of good fats like omega-3 fatty acids and
monounsaturated fats.

12.Statin medicines used to reduce cholesterol

13.Previous eye injury or inflammation

14. Previous eye surgery

15.Hormone replacement therapy

16.Significant alcohol consumption

17. High myopia

18.Family history
