GMAU Muay Thai Testing Syllabus
This is a printable guide which shows the rank requirements to advance to each specific
rank in Muay Thai. Use this as a study guide, and also for when you are filming your rank
exam videos. Note: Testing requirements are subject to change, always double-check the
testing requirements on the “Testing” page when you click “Take the Test.”
Introductory Level Rank Requirements
Stances
● Muay Thai Stance (squared, power side is rear)

Eligibility Requirements

● Footwork: combinations of forward, backward, left, right.

● Uppercut punch
● Roundhouse kick (body)
● Roundhouse kick (leg)

● Front Teep

● Block: hooks, uppercuts
● Bob and weave
Roundhouse Kicks

● Step out circle with lead foot.
● Step out circle with rear foot.

● Elbows (downward, and cut)
● Straight (Spear) knee
● Switch kick
● Side teep
● Diagonal kick
Straight Kicks
● Front Teep

Defense
● Parry counter same hand
● Step out circle check hook
Combinations
● #1: Jab teep
● #2: Jab roundhouse
● #3: Jab cross switch kick

● Clinch Underarm control.
● Rear step sweep.
Movement
● Shuffle and circle both sides.
Strikes
● Overhand.
● Lunging hook.
● Flying knee.
● Spinning elbow both sides.
● Scissor kick.
● Hopping teep.
Straight Kicks
● Front Teep
● Rear Teep
Defense
● Push/throw kick sweep.
● Counter catch kick with straight punch.
● Hand trap counter opposite hand.
Combinations
● Uppercut flow.
● Roundhouse flow.
● Teep, spear, hook, elbow, liver, leg kick chain
Sparring
● Controlled sparring slow 25% power.
Theory
● Pros and cons of flying attacks.

● Complete all Assignments in Level 5.

● Double under trip.

● Scissor sweep.

● X shuffles with stance switching.

● Flying switch knee both sides.
● Spinning back fist both sides.
● Superman punch both sides.
● Question mark kick.
● Jumping side kick.
● Spinning hook kick.
● Tornado kick.
Straight Kicks
● Front Teep
● Rear Teep
Defense
● Catch kick to scissor sweep.
● Reverse kick catch to spinning back fist.
● Check kick to same side teep.

● 360 combo.
● Super dragon punch combo.
