This document contains summaries of 4 projects by Aaron Ivy in their 1st Hour Craft Pottery and Design class. The projects include a paper mache vessel using newspaper and wheat paste, a small hemp macramé using spiral and half knots, a glass etching using a stencil and caustic acid, and a face sculpture made using a paper mold. For each project, Aaron provides a brief description of what they created, any problems encountered, and what they would change.

1st Hour Paper Mache Vessel, Medium Size, Paper Mache I created this project to introduce myself to Paper Mache I started on my vessel by gluing on a primer on to my collage of newspaper with my binder of wheat paste I used a balloon under the vessel as an armature to help support my vessel in its early state I then glued a styrofoam bowl to the bottom of my vessel to act as a foot. I then made the lip of my vessel with heavy construction paper Some problems I encountered during this project were while painting I was wanting to paint my vessel with complimentary colors and ended up paining it with a monochromatic color scheme. If I could change something in my project I would probably go back and paint my vessel with analogous colors. Hemp Macramé, small size, Hemp I created this project to learn the basics of macramé. I started with some hemp as my medium and tied many spiral knots. I then inserted a jump for my bead followed by a few half-knots and square knots, then finally I ended with a Lark’s head, and tied all my knots taut. Some problems I had during this project was getting the right texture for my knot that would match the many macramé cultures of the world I solved this by using a lighter to burn of the rough ends. If I could change something in my project it would have to be to impress more with my macramé. Glass etching, large size, glass and caustic acid. I created this project as an introduction to glass etching and symmetrical balance. I began by etching a stencil into my glass medium the center point of my etching was the mandala. I then used caustic acid to burn the design into the glass. Some problems I encountered during this project were I had too much negative space and not enough positive space. If I could change one thing about this project I would give my etching more radial balance and less asymmetrical balance. Face sculpture, Medium size, Mold I created the face sculpture to introduce myself to casting and molding. I started by using paper to fill the mold of the sculpture making an armature. The persona I created was of no real cultural background and was made just to look human. We used joint compound to steam and make the mold hard or plaster of Paris could have been used. Some problems I encountered during this was getting the high relief right. I fixed this by changing the position of the nose on my sculpture. If I could go back and change one thing I would have made my sculpture slightly more human looking.
