Done by: WALEED ABDULMALEK

Introduction:

The case touches on one theoretical aspect showed in chapter 6; that is, how our perception is

shaped and what factors influence our perception. Before delving into the case body, we have to

understand that our perception is an endeavor to understand things around us by interpret and

organize them to give them meaning. On other hand, the misconception, in general, is an inaccurate

and faulty thinking or understanding for things around us. The core of the case revolves around the

idea how our misperception is distorted and deviated to be a misconception.

Case overview:

The case talks about an electronic tool called “E-portfolio “. Electronic portfolio is an academic

digitalized tool created by students for their courses related works such as essays, presentations,

posters, videos, projects, etc. It can also reflect parts of students ‘personal life such as activities,

skills and experience.

It helps make connection among different subjects and materials.

It helps the instructor give students feedback on their activities

The main issue in the case :

As mentioned, E -Portfolio is a mandatory learning tool in some universities in US and

Europe. However, over 50 % of students linked this tool to a career opportunities.

A survey conducted by Association of American Colleges and Universities showed that 83% of

the respondents believed that portfolio would be useful as a critical means for obtaining jobs.

Most students and specialists misperceived this device as a critical tool for obtaining jobs.

That contradicts even with the bare fact that E-Portfolio is an educational and professional tool

used by students and lecturers to enhance performance and track academic achievements.

E-Portfolio is not a job –oriented tools for reasons:

It is information overloaded with irrelevant details to the employers and hence digging into it

is time consuming.

As one said, “E-portfolio is not a factor in our screening process.”

Conclusion:

Our misperception can be a corollary of some factors intervening while our perception is

formulated. these factors are related to our attitudes, motives ,personal characteristic, personality,

past experience , expectation, time ,place, and other situational factors. That can be very

explanatory to what happened in the case. Students and some academic researchers influenced by

the abovementioned factors

Questions:
