Ans 1:
Tesco plc is an international food and merchandising chain based in the UK. With a turnover
of £ 60 billion (2009), it is the UK's largest retailer by both global sales and domestic market
share, with profits exceeding £ 3 billion. With nearly 500,000 employees (2009) and over
4,000 stores, Tesco is currently the third largest retailer in the world.

A non-exhaustive list may include: RFID systems, CCTV surveillance; order processing
systems, scheduling systems, portable devices, financial data, human resources software;
communication technology to connect shops; e-commerce and e-business systems; supply
chain systems, information systems (IS) used in Tesco to support its loyalty card, auto
insurance quote system, Tesco used electronic data exchange with its major suppliers, 0l
workforce planning system ; computer systems are used in various ways in modern and large
supermarkets, from stock control to maintaining the temperature in refrigerators and freezers;
the computers are used to control stocks and are connected to the cash desks. Each cash desk
has an ELECTRONIC POINT OF SALE (EPOS). This EPOS cash desk includes a keyboard,
digital display, barcode scanner, scale, printer, credit / debit card reader and cash drawer.

Standardization and Integration (Tesco's global standardization strategy started five years
ago) - paves the way for global expansion; Tesco plans to centralize IT applications in its
stores around the world. Tesco plans to centralize its Oracle Financials software, used for
billing, PeopleSoft HR software, and Terradata Management Information Systems, used to
measure budget targets.

For this assignment, I ideally considered a TESCO organization. It is one of the largest
supermarket chains in the UK. It has employed over 260,000 employees over 1,800 stores.
Since it has a large number of people, human resource management would be a great
challenge for such a company. Therefore, I think this is more suitable for going through my
studio.
