The Materials I’ve used and where I Got Them

Everything I’ve utilized in making the vase is either given, or recycled. I believe that is
the purpose of this activity − to reduce plastic waste by recycling them and turning them into
something useful for the environment. The paint that I applied came from the stock that was left
when we painted our house. It got a little dry but thinner saved the day. I was supposed to buy a
new paintbrush but I remembered that I have one in my old art box. The bottles came from my
friend whose family is a fan of alkali water, she told me that every time they buy alkali water, the
bottles just piles up. I suggested to her that she should try to just refill the bottles and add
another bottle of alkali water every time they purchase.

Creation Process of the Vase

I was always a fan of art crafts, especially when we talk about creating designs. The
moment our teacher made us draw and design a can-like structure, I knew something will be up.
So I kept my design as minimalistic as possible so that when we are going to be asked to transfer
it into a material, it will be easier. Cutting and measuring the bottled was the easiest part of the
activity. But the application of paint was a little more complicated than I expected it to be.
Having the doubt that the paint would not stick to the glossy texture of the bottles, I searched
YouTube on how to paint bottles. The video that I followed was the one that said to sand the
bottle before applying the base which was the white paint. I applied two coats of white paint
before finally adding the background color of my design. I only have 5 colors in my hands which
were black, blue, red, white, and yellow. Those will be more than enough to make any color I
have in my design. I followed the color palettes I have in my design. I have two purple
background and one skin toned background. The biggest advice that I learned from the video that
I found on YouTube is that I should let the paint dry before adding another layer or else
everything will just be smudged together. After my background has dried I then got a white oil
pastel from my drawing materials and laid my pattern with the use of it. After finishing the
outline of the patterns and the designs I will be using. I then got the old ice cream containers that
we have and mixed the colors I will need. I already mixed purple and the skin tone so I only have
one color left which is light green. For this color, I used 3 parts of yellow to one part of blue. I
only trusted my instincts in mixing the colors because I wanted to have fun. That was the most
enjoying part of the activity. I was proud that with only three colors in my arsenal I made three
more new colors which I think is impressed. After I was done mixing the paints, I proceeded to
painting the outline I made with the oil pastel. I started with the bigger patterns down to the
smaller ones. I had to be very careful because I have so little space to paint on and the paintbrush
that I have is quite big. I also made use of our old sponge and cut it triangular to fill the spaces
that are hard to fill with the paint brush. After I am done with the colors and dried them, I
outlined the patterns with black paint using the sponges again. I was very happy and proud with
the outcome and I hope that the plant I will be planting in it will be as beautiful as its vase.
