and trust me; you will have great fun doing this. It will also cost-effective.
So, without any further ado, let’s get to know some excellent steps to paint your BMX bike:

Are you ready?

At the very first, all you need is make all the preparation. It would be best if you check that you
have all the necessary materials with you. It would be best if you had some types of tools, a few
spray paint, and your little time. Most importantly, you are ready with all your safety
precautions.
Well, you are all prepared. Now follow the steps:

 Step 1:  Collect all Materials for Painting

When you plan to start painting your bike, at first make sure you check all the materials you
need. Please create a list and collect them.

You will need:

 An old BMX bike of course
 Spray paints (Which colour you like)
 Primer
 Sandpaper
 Allen wrenches
 Socket wrenches
 Masking tape
 Screwdriver
 Piece of stiff wire to hang the bike
 Clearcoat
 Finally, a clean place to work
 Step 2: Decide what colour you want
You probably don’t want your bike to have a shiny glossy finish. So you can choose matte paint.
Light blue, deep red, black or a neon colour will go best for your bike. However, it entirely
depends on your choice. Just follow some online stores and have a look at what types of spray
paints they sell. Then you will have the idea about what you exactly want. If you like anyone,
then go for that colour. Hopefully, you won’t regret it.

 Step 3:   Separate the parts and frame

Well, you should do one more crucial thing before you start painting your bike. It would help if
you took off the seat, chain, wheels, cables, and all other stuff that’s attached with your bike.
And don’t lose the screws or any kinds of stuff.
If you don’t know how to separate the parts from your bike, then you can seek help from your
friend or any specialist. Otherwise masking tapes are another option. Just cover all the aspects
with masking tapes which you don’t want to paint.
After you have removed all the parts, it’s also best to separate the frame apart. Take off the
handlebars. Also, remove the front fork and pull out the seat post. This step helps to make your
painting easier.

 Step 4:  Sanding
If you give paint directly on your bike, then the new colour may not stay on the bike. Or the old
colour will be shown, and it will look not fair on your bike.
Use the finest grit sandpaper that removes the rust and scuffing the old paint from the surface
quickly. You can use 180 grit sandpaper for a better result. But remember, you don’t need to
remove all of the old paint. Just try to get most of the gloss off. Finally, you have to make sure
you remove all the dust and grease from your bike.

 Step 5:   Go for Clean

This part is vital. If there is any dirt in your bike, then all your paintings can be ruined on your
bike. So, clean them well and get rid of all the dirt surface,
You can use a soft cloth to wipe off the bike with your hand. Make sure the bike is clean and as
dust-free as possible.
 Step 6: Primer
This step is not mandatory for painting a bike. But it surely will give you a better result. So, I will
recommend you to must apply this step.
To priming the bike frame or other parts, you can use an aerosol primer. The primer will save
your coats of paint. It would help if you had a piece of stiff wire to hang the bike. Then spray the
primer from a distance of 15 Cm. be careful the wind won’t affect your primer.

 Step 7: Paint
Finally, it’s time to apply the base coat. Once the primer dried up, you can start applying the
colour. At first, apply a thin layer of your spray paint at your first coat. Before applying the
second coat, make sure you let it dry for about one hour. Now leave them to dry for overnight.
Then you can apply a clear coat.
While painting, always concentrates on a specific point. Do not move too fast, and do not move
too slowly. Never apply any thick coats.
For a better result, please read the manufacturer’s instruction carefully.
