Subject: Rubber tube specifications and recommendations for VC type products

Dear Ing. Gomeztagle,

The VC type assembly that is manufactured by Eaton Corporation is used in a wide

variety of applications and industries. Included in the VC assembly is an actuation tube
that is constructed of neoprene and other materials.

The elasticity of the actuation tube is evaluated by measuring with an apparatus known
as a Durometer. When new, the Durometer reading for a VC tube is 60 +/-5 on the Shore
A scale. To help avoid unpredictable in-service failures of the tubes, Eaton recommends
that the tube be removed from service when it reaches a Durometer reading of 72 or
shows cracks from brittleness.
