LABORATORY

CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

NAME:____________________________ DATE:___________________
1. OBJECTIVES
2. - Recognize the internal and external structure of the heart.
3. - Know the chambers, layers, and valves of the heart.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
The heart is the organ that distributes blood to the
rest of the body. It is located on the left side of the
chest cavity: its walls are formed by the heart
muscle or myocardium and protected externally
by the pericardium. It is divided by a septum to
separate the right side from the left side, each of
which is in turn divided into an atrium and a
ventricle.
The venous blood enters the cavernous veins into
the right atrium passing to the right ventricle. From
here it goes through the pulmonary artery into the lung where the blood is oxygenated,
returns to the heart through the pulmonary veins to the left atrium. It goes into the left
ventricle and the blood comes out oxygenated by the aortic artery to the rest of the body.
The direction in the flow of blood is controlled by the valves.
MATERIALS
- Scalpel
- Newsprint
- Chopsticks
- Gloves
- Scissors
- CHIKENS heart

PROCEDURE
Before starting the work remember the rules in the laboratory and be careful when
handling the scalpel, prepare your materials, put on the gown and gloves.
One of the people in the group will not handle the heart, as he will make the necessary
notes for the laboratory report.
- Place the CHICKEN'S HEART on several sheets of newspaper and under the bag to
avoid staining the work space unnecessarily and observe carefully trying to recognize the
right atrium and
left to proceed with dissection.
Wash the heart with abundant water and with the scalpel remove the fat residues
We place the heart with the convex side up
Try to identify the main veins and arteries.
- Cut the heart in two equal halves from the left side, starting at the
pulmonary artery.
- The right side is cut from the aorta, which serves as a guide in the cut.
- The layers that cover the heart are observed and a drawing is made of what was
observed, noting the
colors and textures of each structure.
- We turn the heart
- Finally, it is cut from the superior cavity Venus to its place of arrival in the heart.

ACTIVITY
A report must be submitted at the end of the work with the drawings and observations
made.
The report must contain:
1. Topic
2. Materials
3. Methodology: the entire procedure carried out in the
laboratory since his admission.
4. Observations and descriptions of everything observed, must necessarily include
drawings of what
observed (layers of the heart, chambers, valves and veins and arteries). Describe textures,
colors, shapes, etc... the more detailed the description the higher the score of your work.
5. Conclusions
