1. Play a version of Simon says (see Optional, Teacher’s Book, p.103), where the pupils do the action only if you say please.

Development
1. Activity 1:
 Turn your back to the class, raise your left hand and say left. Then raise your right hand and say right.
Complementary Skill 2  Play the song from Activity 1 and have pupils mime as they listen to the song. They might want to sing as well but avoid having them look in
their textbooks. (Track 3)

2. Activity 2:
 Direct pupils’ attention to the picture and ask them to guess what they are doing. (SB pg 65 Act 2)
 Ask a pupil to stand up, blindfold him/her, and encourage other pupils to give him/her directions so that s/he can move around the classroom.

3. Activity 3:
 Divide the class into three or four teams. Pupils take it in turns to race the instructions, with one pupil in the maze and one pupil giving
directions.
 Exchange roles each time. For each turn, write the basic instructions on the board as prompts, so the teams have the same number of steps.
For example:
 Team 1: right / straight / left / stop
 Team 2: straight / right / straight / stop
 Alternatively, you could prepare the instructions on a worksheet to save time.
Learning Standard Post

1. Directions miming game: Invite a few volunteers to mime the actions of a few directions. The rest of the class name the directions.
2. Enrichment: Distribute worksheet. Guide pupils to complete the exercise. Check the answers.

Reflection:
M 23 out of 33 pupils were able to give 3 basic directions correctly.

C 20 out of 33 pupils were able to listen to and follow 4 out of 5 directions correctly.
