TIPS FOR FILMING YOUR AUDITION:

1. Plan out the shoot and follow the school's specific instructions.
2.  Ladies please wear make-up with your hair back.  This is your first and maybe only
visual impression so look nice!
3.  Pay attention to the background and sound balance.  Simple, clean, plain walls do
much better than clutter.  Do NOT use a wrinkled sheet or tarp:(
4.  If using an accompaniment track, have the music behind you not in front of you.
The panel does not need to hear the accompaniment track - that is for you - and having
the music louder than the singer is not a good idea.
5.  Black or solid clothing is better.  Ladies DO NOT wear anything to revealing - this
includes short skirts.  Men DO NOT wear shorts or anything that looks like you are at
the beach!
6.  All Slates and video introductions should be filmed directly into the camera lens while
the monologues and songs should be filmed with you looking slightly to the left or right
of the camera.  Do not use the panel as your scene partner whether video or live.
PLEASE do not look down or at the ceiling.  Practice in front of a mirror what you will be
doing before you film it.
7.  Establish your physical parameters before filming.  You want to stay in the frame at
all times.  This can be tricky with a monologue that was meant for moving.
8.  Be mindful of the framing specifics. Have your spreadsheet with you so you can get
each schools specific parameters - yes it takes a couple of hours!
9.  ABSOLUTELY NO MORE THAN 3 TAKES!! yes - sorry all you over achievers and
perfectionists; but your voice just will not hold up to 10 - 12 takes.
10.  It is imperative that you do not try and record everything in one session.  This
usually causes much frustration and tears.  Instead my suggested timeline would look
something like below.
