 MITÚ, BEHAVIOR VS. COVID-19

Mitú is a beautiful place full of nature where the people who live there maintain a
quiet and safe lifestyle. In March of this year, the first cases of covid-19 infection were
reported and since then the entire population has had to follow the instructions of the
health authorities to prevent the spread of the virus. Many people have been aware of
and have followed biosecurity measures, but there are other people who have ignored
these indications, causing the virus to continue spreading in Mitú and in the rest of the
department of Vaupés.

People's behavior is very important to counteract the advance of the virus, the self-
care is the main tool we have to avoid contagion, that is why people should use a
mask, continuous hand washing, disinfection and cleaning of surfaces and social
distancing.

Unfortunately, many people have not followed these recommendations and have done
parties in hidden places where social distancing is not kept or a mask is used, for this
reason, the police have had to closely monitor the population to ensure compliance
with the decrees of the Mayor's Office of Mitú and the Vaupés Government; in some
cases the police have had to impose summons on the population for failing to comply
with the decrees.

Currently, in the municipality of Mitú , more than 800 complaints have been made to
offenders since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, demonstrating the bad
behavior of some of its inhabitants, which have caused about 693 people to have been
infected.

This pandemic is not a game, since it has already claimed the lives of 6 people in the
department of Vaupés, therefore, our behavior must improve in order to fight the
covid-19 and face this moment without more victims.
