ANA: Hello Luis you knew that water is the resource most altered by the various irresponsible
activities of human beings that impact on its natural quality. Activities such as mining, oil
extraction, solid waste contamination (containing many toxic substances). And as you know Water
is one of the most fundamental natural resources for the development and maintenance of living
beings, what do you think can be done to restore this resource?
LUIS: In my opinion, we should show people about the impact of these activities on the
environment. I'm other hand, we should encourage people to take care of the water in rivers,
Because it's very scarce.
ANA: You are very right; environmental education is very important to conserve the environment.
I also wanted to tell you that. This cycle at the university I am developing my thesis about
substances that purify water from rivers of pollutants. These substances are called coagulants and
are made from natural products like cassava, to help conserve rivers.
LUIS: Interesting. Yeah, Peru is a place with many natural resources, but Lima is a very dry place
all year, we have to conserve as much as we can.
ANA: You are very right, part of the Peruvian coast is a desert and turning the water is a luxury that
we cannot afford. Luis, what do you do at home to conserve of the water?
LUIS: I always try to save water. When I brush my teeth I use a glass of water and check the pipes
in my home.
ANA: Good, Also I reuse the water from the vegetable and fruit wash to water my plants. It is also
important to know that we must not burn garbage, that industries must treat their gaseous emissions
because otherwise they affect glaciers that are a source of freshwater for humanity.
LUIS: I guess we could use social media so that more people know the importance of saving water.
ANA: I love the idea. I feel that little people will become aware of the care of water and not only of
water but of the environment, since due to the current situation we are living through Covid it is
very important not to pollute. The decision is up to us, as we have seen through the news that due to
the isolation many rivers have partially recovered and we must seek to keep it that way and not
contaminate.
