There is no doubt that nurses are truly angels in the sickroom. As cliché as it is,
the very first thing that comes to mind if asked what is the role of the nurse is to serve
humanity, but there’s more of that. Nurses continuously play a vital role in the life of the
patient wherein they are like some of the senses in our body. Such as the sight, to serve
as the vision for the patient’s health and recovery, and to assess and ensure the safety
and development of a client. To hear but also listen and empathize to the needs,
concerns, and thoughts of the patient and communicate to be able to impart information
for the client to learn and be knowledgeable of its surrounding. Touch, this may be
simple but one touch of the patient’s hand brings comfort and assurance. This is where
the patient sees you not just as a health care provider, but also a person who is
genuinely caring for them which helps in the process of healing. Moreover, the main
goal of the nurse is to provide care, support and most importantly to save lives.

As of today, out of all the specialties in the field of nursing, I think I most likely to
get into operating room nursing. Aside from the fact that it requires a high standard of
skilled nurses because you are in a life and death situation, there’s this burning desire
of me that wants to be challenged to give it all and become the nurse that fits the
qualifications for this department. For instance, attentiveness, critical thinking skills,
organized, paying attention to detail, and etc. are some of the qualities I should have if I
want to become an OR Nurse. For now, I have a lot more to prove in order to live this
dream as there will be no easy way to success. The only thing I can do is take
everything as a challenge to pass through, be passionate and driven as this will be my
guide to the future. Just by thinking I am an OR Nurse in the future gives me mixed
emotions as it feels surreal.
