Slide 1:

Hello everyone! Today we are going to talk about recent events and daily routines. So, a
recent event that is happening in the world is this little friend here, the coronavirus. This
disease made us stay in our homes for a long time. I think it would be fun to play a game
related to the vocabulary used to talk about coronavirus.

Slide 2: Here we have a crossword, like the one on the codycross app. I will show you the
definition and you have to tell me the word, so I can complete the spaces. After you said
the word, you will have to spell it.

The first definition is the name given to the disease. Covid. Yes.
The second definition is a job. This person can cure you. Doctor, correct.

The third definition is the person who helps the doctor. Nurse, great.

The fourth definition to stay in home for several days. Yes, cuarentena in English is Quarantine.

The fifth definition is a tiny infectious agent. How did you guess? Well it is correct Virus.

Slide 3:

During the time of quarantine, we use to follow a routine. But how do we talk about routines in
English? Easy, with simple present.

We use the simple present to talk about habits and routines.

As in most of the sentences we have an affirmative form, negative form and question.
We will start with the affirmative form.
Slide 4:
We have a formula that is going to help us to construct the sentence. First, we have a
subject, then we have a verb and then we have a complement. In the example: I play the
piano, I would be the subject, play would be the verb and the piano is the complement.
Slide 5:
There is a distinction we have to have very clear. The pronouns I, You, We and They you
have are accompanied with the verb as it is., as is it shown in the examples.
Slide 6:
In the case of the pronouns HE, SHE and IT you have to add an s at the end of the verb. If
the verb finishes in ch, sh, x or z you have to add es. And if the verb finishes in y you
replace the y for and ies, we have to be very conscious at doing this because not all the
verbs ended with y replace their y. Here are some examples. Do you have any question till
here? Good.
Slide7:
The negative form. Here we have another formula subject +do/does + not +verb
complement. As you can notice, in this sentence we have to use an auxiliary verb. Can you
guess which one is it? Correct, the verb do. With the pronouns I, You, We and They you
have to use do + not which in the contracted form will be don’t. In the case of pronouns,
He, she and it we are using does + not which in the contracted form is going to be doesn´t.
REMEMBER, when we use doesn’t we don´t have to add s, es, ies to the verb. Here are
some examples. Is everything clear? Great.
Slide 8:
Moving forward we have the question. The formula of this sentences is Do/does+ subject+
verb + complement. In the case of the pronouns I, You, We and They we use do. In the
contrary, with the pronouns he, she and it we use does at the beginning. Here are some
examples.
Slide 9:
The is one element that we are missing to make one of this simple present sentence a
daily routine. Exactly, the day. WE can add the day at the beginning like this (shows the
power point) or at the end (shows again).
Slide x:
Now that you have understand the simple present, I want you to do an affirmative
sentence, negative sentence and a question. When you finish compare with your
classmate. If you have questions raise your hand and I will go to your sit. Lets work then.
