The speed of the motor is a function of line voltage, temperature and load variations, Speed is dependent on and proportional to line frequency. The motor is adapted to 50 or 60 Hz pouer line frequencies by the correct choice of motor pulley. Pulley for 50 Hz Part. 234 453 Pulley for 60 Hz Part. 234 454 The drive ie Linked to a flyuheel rotor be- neath tho platter by a precision-ground belt (36). Uhen replacing the flet belt (36) be sure that the precision-ground surface of the belt (dull finish) closely contacts pulley (116) end the flyuheel rotor. Platter speeds of 33 1/3 and 45 rpm are ad= justed by linking the flat belt (36) to the Eorresponding step of the drive pulley (116) (Fig. 3). Corresponding to the actustien of the speed selector (13) the changeover lever is brought to the appropriate position of now minal speeds (33 or 45 rpm) vie lever (102) and spring lever. Uhen the unit is electri- cally shut off the changeover lever is blocked by locking bar (3), Consequently, the speed is only preselected. After suitching on the unit end turning the plat~ ter (34) the paul (8) disengages the changeover lever, thus guiding the flat belt to appropriate step of the pulley (116). Replacement of Motor Pulley 1, Remove flat belt (36) from motor pulley (118) toothed belt from toothed belt pul- dey Ir (105). 2. Disengage tension spring (114) at shield Gat). 3. Then turn quarter to helf turn clockuise. Place stop disk (111) such that the nose () touches the stop as shoun in Fig. 4. 5. Loosen set screus (117) and remove motor pulley (116). 6, Place complete replacement motor pulley on motor axle, Remove conical sleeve. Se careful with the interior distance bush- ing. Adjust notor pulley vertically (see Fig. 1) and tighten set screus (117) uniformly, Place conical sleeve into the motor pulley (116). 7. Mount the complete bearing assembly, and attach flat belt (36), toothed belt’ (109) ‘and tension spring. Mount adjusting nut (110). 8. Setting of nominal speed To bring stop disk into canter position turn adjustment knob correspondingly. (The nose of the stop disk should show to the motor pulley center). Adjust nominal speed by turning adjusting nut (110) counterclockwise thus the speed is reduced. When turning it clockwise the speed is increased. Stroboscope Accurate cating of the pletter speed 35.1/3 can be checkeo during play vith the aid of the stroboscope device. Uhen tha platter (34) is rotating at exact ly 33. 1/3 the lines of the stroboscope ap- pear to stand still. If the lines of the stroboscope move in the direction af rata~ tion of the platter, the platter speed is too high. If the lines move backwards, the platter is rotating more slouly than the nominal speed. Adjustment is carried out vith the "pitch" knob (11). The turntable pletter (34) io fitted uith stroboscope markings for 80 and 60 Hz, therefore @ re-arranging of the strobdscope ig not neceasary if Frequency changes. After removing the housing top (258) the glou lanp (260) can be changed. Trouble After suitching the unit on the glow lamp (250) of the stroboscope does not came on. Cause a) Glou lanp (260) defective b) Power supply interrupted Remedy a) Renou glow lamp (260). In the case of glou lamps vith red spot, ensure that the ted spot (anode) faces the C 1 capacitor. b) Check connections at pouer pack, checl components. Tonearm and Tonearm Bearing The Dual 1249 has @ feather-light, axtromely torsion-resistant all-metal tonearm which is suspended in a gimbal. Suspension is by means of 4 hardened and precision polished steel pointe which rest in precision ball bearings. Tonsarn bearing friction is thus reduced to a minimun. Bearing friction vertical 0,07 mv Bearing friction horizontal = 0,16 aN related to stylus point. fg 9 result, st ensures extremely favourable Pick-up conditions. The pickup head 18 re~ Rovable. The skating force is dependent on the gao- metry of the tonearm, on the tracking force and on the tip curvature of the stylus of the pick-up cartridge. The pull on the tone= arn to the center of the platter caused by the skating effect leads not only to trou- blesone jumping of the tonearm when lowered manually or automatically, but also the un= even flank loading of the sound groove with the resultant effects uhich have to be oli- minated on a hifi record player with the aid of the anti-skating device, By turning the skating roller fitted an the mounting plate the asymmetrical curve track fs moved. Depending on the different scales in operation provided for spherical end cl- iiptical needles as ucll ae for CD 4 cartrid- ges, the skating lever (248) is moved from ite’ rest position and by means of a tension spring (259) the equivalence is tranemitted to the tonearm. Optimum adjustment is carried out at the vorks for styl! vith e tip radius of 15 2 um (conical) and §/6 x 18/22 um (ollip= tial) as uell as for CD 4 pick-up car tridges. The hexagon nut (226) is tightened and locked uith paint. Alteration can only be carried out uith the eid of the Dual Skate-O-Neter and test record L 096 and should only be cone by an authorised ser— vice station. Remedy a) Selence tonearm b) Check tonearm balance, adjust tracking force to the value stated by the car- tridge manufacturer ©) Correct anti-skating setting 6) Renew stylus ©) Check tonesrm bearings. Both bearings must have slight, just perceptiale slay. The adjustment of the vertical bearing should only be carried out uith the left- hand besring ecreu (grub ecreu 61), thet af the horizontal. bearing by means’ of grub screw (36), The horizontal bearing $s correctly, sdjusted uhan at antinskat~ ing setting "0.5" (tonearm previously balanced cxactiy) the tonearm slides. in uithout resistance. #) Roneu steal bell (783) a) Eliminate friction by adjusting the be: Fing screw (grub screw 55) and check ba: Lance b) Remove tonearm complete with bearing (see pege 7). Unscrew drive shaft (57). Remove cover plate (49) from tonearm bearing, Remove guide (46) on Lift pin (51). Remove lockyasher (47), detach ad juster sleeve (48) and remove second lockuasher (47). Withdrau lift pin evenly with "Uacker Silicone Oil AK 500 00". Reassenble components. Tonearm Control Automatic movement of the tonearm is initi~ ated by the control cams on the inside of the,can heel (165) on rotating through 360°. The control elements for raising and lover- ing are the control lever (194) and lift pin (51), for horizontal movement of the tone~ atm control lever (194) uith segment (240). The automatic tonearm set doun is designed for 30 cm and 17 em records and is coupled to the platter speed changeover. The set- doun points of the tonearm are determined by the spring pin of segment (240) contac~ ting the positioning slide (253). Limita- tion of the horizontal movement of the tonearm is produced by the pin of segment contacting the stop attached to the slide bar (253). Only during set-doun does con~ trol lever (194) lift the slide bar (253) and the stop attached to it uhich, as a result, moves into the suivel range of the stop pin Fitted on the segment. After con pletion ef set doun (louering of the tone— arm onto the record) the slide bar (253) position. As a result the stop moves out of the suivel rango of the stop pin so that unimpeded horizontel movenent of the tonearm is possible for pleying. Cue Control The cue control permite gentle set-doun of the tonearm at any desired point (outside the shut-off ranga) on the record. By moving cueing Lever (82) (noving for— wards) 1ift cam rotates. The slide bar (25 connected to it transmits thie movement to the 1iff pin which then raises the toneara. After moving the tonearm into the required position on the record, cueing lever is re~ Toased by gently moving to the rear. As aint Fig. 15 Tonear result, slide bar (253) is released and the tonearm lousre slouly. Louering of the tonearm is damped by silicone oil in the Lift tube. The heigt of the stylus above the record can be varied by turning adjusting screw (66) uithin the range 0 - 6 mm. The dis~ tance is increased by turning Glockuise and the distance betueen record and stylus can be reduced by turning anti-clockuiee. 66 252 226 51 Trouble Cause Tonearm does not set 2) Tonearm set-doun doun at the edge of point is incor= the record rectly set b) Record non-stand— ard c) Friction face of tonearm coupling dirty d) Anti-skating sot- ting is incor~ rectly set Tonearm does not Excessive damping in set doun on record —the 1ift tube as a after operating cue —rosult of contamina control tion of the silicone oil. After fitment and each time after transport the unit should be started once uith tone~ arm secured for automatic adjustment of au- tomatic shut-off (control lever (86) to "Start"). b) The shifting gate (210) is moved in direction to the cam follower lever (168), it is then moved to starting po- sition when the cam uheel is turning. c) The actuation of the control lever (86) releases the start lever (206) which is moved touards the can uheal by means of @ tension spring (207), Then the shut-off lever is moved touarda the striker near the pinian af the driving disk and then the cam uheel is running. Manual Start The paul (198) coupled to control arm (177) engeges behind the square end attached to tha chassis uhen the tonearm is moved in= uards by hand and retains the control erm in this position. Tho power guitch is operated by the shut off lever (179) coupled to the control arm and thus the motor and platter starts to rotate. After reaching the run-out groove of the record return of the tonearm and shut-off of the unit take place automati- cally. If, on the other hand, the tonearm is lif— ted off the record before playing is com pleted and is moved onto the rest by hand, the pin of the segment (240) disengages the paul (198) so that the control arm is re~ turned to its starting position. As a re~ sult, the pover suitch shute off the pouer supply. Short Circuiter To prevent disturbing noises during automa~ tic operation of the tonearm the unit is fitted with a short circuiter. Control of the suitch springs for both channels is ef- fected by the camuheel. With the unit in neutral state the short circuit of the pick up leads is eliminated. Continuous Play Continuous play is operated by turning knob (84) to coposition. By turning the knob (84) the suitching system (236) is moved, the starting lever (211) is actue ted and then forcing the can follover lever (168) to start position. After playing a re- cord the tonearm is moved back and sets doun on the run-in groove of the record. This operation is repeated - also in automatic mode, till the operation lever (86) is turnad to "stop" or if the knob (84) is turned to position "1", Stopping Uhen control lever (86) is set to "stop" position the start lever (206) which is pulled touards the cam by means of tension (207), is freed. As a result, the shut-off lever (151) is moved into the range of dogs on tho plaster pinion thus driving tho main can. ‘The cam follouer lever (158) renaine in its stop position. Record Drop Insert the appropriate spindle - Al 3 for standard records (7 mn or 1/4" center hole) or AS 12 for 45 rpm records (38 mm or 1 1/2" eenter hole). To prevent faulty operation, automatic re~ cord-changing operation is possible only uhen the moda selector is in the "multi" position. Record drop is initiated by the rotation of cam (165), whose cam surface (AK) guides the cam tocker (AU), pushing the change actuator stud (173) and releasing a record by means of the automatic spindle. The main can is designed so that a record can drop only uhen the tonearm ia above the tonearm rest and thue out of the reach of tha largest possible record (12" diameter). u | | If f wee 78 250 2 att Cam wheel at zero: Contacts of muting switch opened Cam wheel is turning: Contacts of muting switch is closed Fig. 19 Initiating shut-off function Fig. 20 m———_t EN wo 288 \ \ | 03mm Vea" Fig. 21 12 Shut - off and Change Cycle The dog (i) on the turntable platter gear (AR) and the shut-off lever (161) actuate both the change cycle et the cand of the Fecord ao uel! es’the shuteerr after the Test record in a stuck Te played At the end of @ record, the tonearm mo touarde the center at an accolorated due to the increased pitch of the grooves. The eccentric dog pushes the shut-off lever (161) back at each revolut- ion as long 2s the tonearm advance 1s only one normal record groove. The run-out groove with its steeper pitch moves the shut-off 1 jeinst the dog uith greater force, engaging the shut-off Lever (161) and causing the main cam (165) to be driven out of its neutral position by the turntable platter gear. ‘Shut-off Mechanism Shut-off and change functions are deter— mined by the position of the can follover lover (168). After every start or record drop, the cam follouer lever is brought to its stop position by the main lever (194) (longer ene touards the center of the main fs the record is dropped the cam follover lever (168) is turned to its start position by the cam rocker (A), so that tne Eone- ain can suing in touerd the record and be louvered on to it.
