UNIT 1
MODULE
1

Overview
One of the most important outcome of teaching science are scientific attitudes. Scientific
attitudes enable us to think rationally. There are different qualities and virtues that reflects the
behavior and action of a person. Scientific attitude is being objecting in observation and thinking,
he/she is truthful in his/her thinking, objective in his/her observation and action and is free from
superstitious beliefs. (Gogoi, 2014).
Scientific research is done with patience and determination. Doing a research is not an easy
skill. Each research starts with a necessity that wonders the mind on how to solve it. Research is
not done overnight. It is done using a thorough investigation. As a researcher, you should possess
an attitude to get the research done. In this module, you will learn the different scientific attitude
and the importance of it.

Time allotment:
Motivation 20 minutes
Pre-Activity 40 minutes
Main Activity 60 minutes
Lecturette 60 minutes
Application 60 minutes
Evaluation 60minutes

At the end of this module, the learner is expected to:

1. Identify the different scientific attitudes.
2. Explain how scientific attitudes can help in doing a research
3. Apply scientific attitudes in designing simple science investigation

GUIDE QUESTIONS:
1. At Kittyhawk in 1901, what did the Wright brothers learn from the failed flights?
2. What limitations did the Wright brothers find in Professor Langley’s "Experiments in
Aerodynamics"? What did they decide to do as a result of coming to this conclusion?
3. What was the importance and benefit of studying the existing scientific data?
4. Why did the Wright brothers ultimately decide to discard this data?
