Use these terms and definitions below to understand concepts taught in the course.

Transcript Search: note that you can search for terms directly within the course. To search video text, switch to
the Transcripts tab, then press Cmd/Ctrl + F on your keyboard to run a search within the active transcript.

Term Definition

cell range A cell range is a series of cells that are identified as a group

cell reference A cell reference refers to a cell or cell range used in a formula, and Excel can find the
values or data that you want that formula to calculate

data validation Data validation is a feature that helps to prevent the wrong data from being entered into
your worksheet

dialog box A dialog box in Excel is a separate or pop-up screen where you enter information and
decide which different aspects of the current worksheet or its content (e.g., data, charts,
and graphic images) you want to use

fill handle The fill handle is a feature to extend (and fill) a series of numbers, dates, or even text to
a desired number of cells; it is a tiny box in the lower right corner

function A function is a formula that is already built into Excel to help simplify more complex
formulas

pivot table The pivot table is a tool that summarizes the most common data (e.g., sort, averages,
and other statistics), which then can be used for data analysis and charts

ribbon The ribbon is at the top of the workbook and is a section of command tabs

workbook A workbook is an Excel spreadsheet file; it may contain many worksheets

worksheet A worksheet is a document or tab within a workbook
