EXPLANATION OF THE SITUATION (Issue & Effect)
ISSUE:
[1] The gears shown above were frequently damage and worn-out due to axial and radial play when the set
screw gets loosed from gripping.

[2] During replacement of damaged gears, the procedure will be to pull-out the gears assembly from the
Up-Down Post prior for welding/tack welding activity in W/Shop (Hot work is not allowed inside MS Bldg.)

[3] The shaft connected to adjusting handle frequent slipped when the pillow block bearing set screw get
loosed resulting to improper engagement of gears.

EFFECT:

We proceed for modification for the gears and shaft for Up-Down Post by installation of key & keyway at shafting
& gears and include the installation of spacer and locking plate at shaft-end of adjusting handle resulted to the
following below:

1. The excessive play/slipping movement of gears during rotation was eliminated by installation of key.

2. The axial play of shaft and gears were eliminated by installation of spacer and lock plate shaft-end

3. The welding activity in the assembling procedure and grinding activity in disassembling procedure of gears
were eliminated. No need for pull-out of assembly to bring in W/Shop.

Since both movement (axial and radial play) of gears from shaft and axial play of pillow block bearing from the
shaft were both prevented, the improper engagement of gears was eliminated also so therefore the recurrence of
damaged/worn-out gears in the Up-Down Post of 206WS01A was finally eliminated during operation.
