VI. CHAPTER DESCRIPTION

To design a general arrangement or the general design of the ship. Designers take a
concerted accurate Where includes the volume enclosed vessel (GT) as a whole. To
design the existing space on the vessel as on the superstructure deck, designers take a
concerted Where how many the number of ship crew so that the ship deck can be build
and can be designed to support the activities of ship crew.
Calculation of the mass to be moved as the main engine fuel, engine auxiliary fuel,
lubricating oil, fresh water is also a consideration in designing the general arrangement.
That is because the placement of each of the mass must be placed specifically and follow
the rules, on a ship in this document will follow the rules of the Nippon Kaijiyokai.
Gross Tonage
Gross Tonnage is the calculation of the volume of all the space located below the
deck of the vessel plus the volume of the enclosed space located above the deck plus
the contents of the room along with all the enclosed spaces located above the top deck
(superstructure)
The calculation of Gross Tonnage is described in Regulation 3 of Annex 1 in
The.International Convention on Tonnage Measurement of Ships, 1969. Depending
on two variables, Volume and k which is the ,multiplier factor based on the volume of
the ship
Consumable Mass
The output of calculating gross tonnage will be used to determined the amount of
the crew needed. There for we can calculate the need of The ship consumable mass
which consists of Lubrication Oil, fuel oil for the main engine and auxiliary engine,
fresh water for cooler, and the consumable ones for the crews and also the lubrication

oil. Not forget to mention, we also consider the mass of the baggage of the crews and
also the foods to support the life of the crews inside the ship. are the consumable
things that are required to support the operational of the vessel,
freshwater is required to meet the needs of sailing in order to maintain the
survival of the crew and to meet the needs of the system work on the ship, while the
needs of fresh water on the ship are used for cooking, washing, bathing, cooling the
machine and others etc.
The fuel requirement for the Main Engine as well as the auxiliary machinery is of
course very important where in the absence of fuel supplied to the Main engine it is
impossible that the machine can work and push the ship to run or sail. For that reason
it is necessary to calculate so that the fuel carried by the ship can meet the needs of
the engine at the time of sailing to reach the destination.
Therefore the calculation of consumable mass will be consisted in this document.

VII. SAILING ROUTE & SHIP DATA

Sailing route is the distance miles in a journey by means of transportation of the ship.
Both container carriers, passenger ships, etc. Determination of shipping routes serves to
determine the needs of fuel, lubricants, logistics, etc. During sailing and transit vessels. In
this general arrangement plan, the sailing route used by Thor Thunder with details as
follows:
Where the principal dimension is :
1. Length Between Perpendicular (LPP) : 121.69m
2. Breadth Moulded (B) : 19.6 m
3. Depth Moulded (H) : 14.5 m
4. Design Draft (T) : 9.446 m
5. Service speeds : 14.5 knot
6. Type of ship : General Cargo
7. Route : Jakarta – Qinzhou
8. Sailing Radius : 1832 Nautical miles (3667Nm roundtrip)
9. Endurance : 264 Hours / 11 days
10. Cargo : Corn Kernels (bag) / Coffe been (bag)

The fuel used by ship "Thor Thunder" for Wärtsilä 8L32 main engine is MDF, this is
because the machine is a medium-speed diesel engines that require these machines got a
supply of fuel distillation (MDF) with characteristics such as the table below:

8. Calculation of Food weight
To obtain approximate values of the weight of the food, the authors use a food
coefficient of 5. Calculations can be performed using the formula below:
S
W P=k x ∑ crew x ( +t Loading ) x 10−3
t xVs
¿ 0,358 ton
(Tentang Rencana Umum, Gaguk Suhardjito, 2006 halaman 17)
Wheres :
WP : Weight of foods. (ton)
k : weight coef of foods. (4 - 6)
∑ crew : number of crew

9. Calculation of Engine Cooloing Water

Cooling water for Main Engine
It is estimated that the need for cooling the main engine as much as 5 kg / BHP
(based on "Tentang Rencana Umum" by Gaguk Suhardjito 2006 page 18)
Wfwm = BHP x c x t / 106 BHP = 4640 kW
= 3.062 ton = 6222 HP

Cooling Water for Auxiliary Engine

It is estimated that the need for cooling Auxiliary Engine as much as 0.2 times the
needs of the Main Engine
Wfwm = 3.062 x 0.2
= 0.61248 ton

Total Water Needs for Engine Cooling

Wfm = 3.062+0.61248
= 3.675 ton

10. Calculation of Crew and Goods Weight

> Crew Weight Averages
Assumed that crew weight averages is 75 kg/crew
20 x
Wcr =
75
= 1500 kg
= 1.5 ton

> Luggage
Assumed that luggages is 5 kg / crew
Wpro
= 5 x n x 10 / 10³
v
= 1 ton
